Indy Urban Hardwood is the creative problem solving of Brian Presnell and the introduction of urban milling into the Indianapolis design scene. Many cities across the Midwest are facing an excess of dying ash trees due to the emerald ash borer. This epidemic has led to the clearing of trees and a surplus of firewood around city curbs.
Indy Urban Hardwood is hoping to save some of the wood that would ordinarily be mulched or burned. After the raw wood is kiln dried it can be sold as slabs to local builders or made into custom furniture by our design team. Additionally, we are building relationships with furniture design students by offering discounted or donated wood.

The Yard is stocked with a mix of slabs, live edge, and dimensional lumber sourced in the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area. After we mill, our wood is air dried to a moisture content in the mid-teens, then heads to the kiln, and is taken down to a final moisture content in the 6-8% range. All lumber and slabs at Indy Urban Hardwood are rough cut.

I was looking for gifts to give our clients and friends and spoke with Brian. He was very helpful in working with my price point and figuring out what was best for our needs. 2 weeks later we had over 50 cutting boards with our logo on them to give as holiday gifts to our clients and friends that had a story behind it. Loved the process and experience.

My dad does beautiful woodworking. As a birthday present, I wanted to surprise him with some live edge wood for projects -- but I don't know that much about what's best. The guys at Indy Urban Hardwood picked out a selection of awesome slabs within a budget I gave them, and then a few months later, I got some gorgeous shelves as a present! Wow, the gift that keeps on giving ;). Gorgeous stuff available here, and thankful for the help from the staff.

The joy I receive from having my space decorated with products from local artisans is always worth the maybe slightly higher price tag. Sure I could have gone to Ikea and found a cheap, built-it-yourself coffee table but instead I went to Indy Urban Hardwood and found this beauty. The owner Brian gave new life to this Indiana ash tree that was lost to the emerald ash borer who is wiping out these poor trees. Now I’m always tickled by the compliments I receive on this piece from every visitor who sits in this space- I get to tell them about the new life this tree was given and where they can go
