Benchmark - A survey mark made on a monument having a known location and elevation, serving as a reference point for surveying. Chain carrier - An assistant to the surveyor, the chain carriers moved the surveying chain from one location to another under the direction of the surveyor. This was a position of some responsibility, and the chain carriers took an oath as "sworn chain carriers" that they would do their job properly.

David L. Smith Surveying assisted with my Certified Parcel Split in Hillsborough County. This is my second large project working with Smith Surveying and I have to say they are my FAVORITE contraction professionals to work with. Hillsborough county is a nightmare to deal (poor communication, unrealistic demands and general hot mess). Every issue that the County created, Smith Surveying knew the proper solution. TWICE the County was wrong and Smith Surveying was correct in how to fulfill transportation requirements. They have a great team, great communication, good pricing. You should go with this

Update: they took care of the issue and we got what we needed. They ended up going above expectations. They turned a negative into a positive and would recommend them.
Original: Horrible and no customer service DO NOT USE. We contacted them to get an elevation certificate so we can build a house or put a mobile home on property on a canal due to flood zone. Smith provided a survey that included elevation but the county requires an elevation certificate and not a survey. 5 stars to this surveying company. I called several companies to do an survey on a lot we are about to purchase. David L Smith is the one who gave me the best value and fastest turn around for this service. Few days ago I got an e-mail with the digital copy I was able to provide to my designer and today I got 6 stamped surveys. As a contractor , we find some homeowners don't have a survey available for their projects, well now we will definitely start referring them to David Smith surveying. Highly recommend Margo and the team at David Smith. The survey is an important part of the mortgage transaction and it often times comes at the end of the process and requires a quick timeline.
