It all commenced with a vow, evolving into a manifestation of a dream. Gaetano Gravino, a hairstylist, initially took up part-time employment at a doughboy shack in Oakland Beach. What started as a mere sideline endeavor burgeoned into an opportunity resonating with his entrepreneurial zeal—a spirit that resonates with his wife and children: Sally, MaryAnn, David, and Guy. When the chance arose to lease the establishment, Gaetano and Sally seized it. Thus, in 1989, Iggy’s Doughboy and Chowder House came into existence—christened after a moniker bestowed upon Gaetano by his son, David. The centerpiece of their menu was the red chowder—a closely-guarded family recipe crafted by Sally herself.

I used to live in this neighborhood (Oakland Beach) and would always see the line out the door daily, when in season. Iggy's is definitely a RI classic; growing up, everybody talked about Iggy's in the summer. On our last visit in Autumn, we had a lovely experience. I haven't seen the updated outdoor area since moving out of state. They had picnic tables and this area was spacious and perfect for a picnic.
There's a boardwalk, playground, and a small beach nearby, for when you're done eating and want to burn some calories. We ordered at the outdoor counter. Thankfully there was no line due to it being a weekday, early in the day, and not being summer or it would've been a different scene. The food came out fast, hot, and it was delicious. I had to get their clam cakes, clam chowder, and Del's lemonade (another RI classic). Dip the clam cake in the chowder and take in the nostalgic RI summer taste. Overall, an iconic spot that will for sure be part of the RI's past and future.

Stopped in for mom's birthday lunch. Had Hannah, (the Hannah that's been there for a while, not the new one that started this week) and she was amazing. Great personality and she got our food order correct. She kept mom stocked with her favorite bread which is still warm when served. It was the perfect lunch. Huge, thank you to Hannah for making my mom feel so special.

Good is good. We typically get clam cakes, chowder and doughboys. All were good. Service was okay, not great. Hard to see the menu board if you're over 5 foot tall lol. My kid had tenders and fries which were pretty good as well. Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Doughboys, Clamcakes, Clam Chowder, French Fries. More

The cashier was friendly and welcoming. The lobster roll is seasoned perfectly, buttery, and incredibly delicious with generous meat portions. The toasted bun adds a delightful crunch. The perfectly seasoned calamari is also generous in portion. While the lobster bisque lacked meat and flavor, the clam chowder was creamy and delightful. Surprisingly, the snail salad with vinaigrette dressing was tasty.
The raspberry lime homemade soda leaned a bit too sweet for my taste. And, of course, the doughboys are a must-definitely gotta grab a dozen to go. Excited for their patio when it warms up!

After a week long road trip we stopped at Iggy's after deciding that we had time for one stop before having to make our flight home and we'd read that you couldn't leave RI without trying a stuffie (stuffed quahog). This place had the best reviews for one. It was definitely worth the stop and risking our flight. We ordered a little bit of everything and it was delicious, the stuffie being the best. While ordering we also learned that there are 3 versions of clam chowder in the NE region and that clear is the RI version.

We were in town staying nearby and heard this place was popular among the locals and a must-try when visiting. We didn't know what a doughboy was, but the young lady working the register filled us in and took our order. We got some doughboys and chowder and enjoyed both, but especially the chowder. Service was good also Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5. More

This place is really cool. Little beach out back. Totally has an 80s vibe to it. Teens working the counter, people walking around, beach out back where kids are playing and swimming. Cool vibe. Food is great too. Got Clam Cakes and Chowder with a Diet Pepsi and a Quahog for $20. Everything was really good. Their Clam Cakes are basically hush puppies but the batter they use has a little sweetness to it.really good stuff! Make sure to try the Quahog! It's a breaded clam mix served in a Quahog shell. It's REALLY good! Everything about this place was fun.

It's that time again. I came to this joint during my recent trip to the New England area. Since seafood is the thing I chose this place to suit. I got the white chowdah w/clam cake combo. The chowdah at this place was bomb duders. I'm a big fan of clam chowder and this place nailed it. Lots of pieces of clam and the potato was on point by not being overwhelming.
The clam cakes were soo good too. Great flavor and a doughy texture to boot. I dipped them in the chowdah which just made them even better. Out of the two joints I tried during my visit that had the cakes, I most definitely preferred these! Parking: Lots of parking lots. 3 total, I believe.

I'm the biggest fan of fried clams, but I have to say the Calamari was my favorite from Iggy's. I always order them well done and with the red sauce on the side. It's a big portion and for a great price. If you don't want to wait in the long lines, you can always order ahead and walk up to the blue tent to pick up your order. Lines can get reallllllly long!

A popular, near or far, year round experience! The food and the quality is authentic clam shack and seafood fare. There are a few non seafood options to cater to kids and non seafood fans. The prices are moderate with $$ out of 5. The view from inside eating or outside eating is equally serene and wonderful with beach views. This is a staple for my family and I when we are in Rhode Island! Highly recommended to all.
