The key to total health also means taking care of your mouth, teeth, and gums. At your next check-up appointment, not only will we be able to help you achieve a baseline for your oral hygiene, but we can also show you how we can work as a team to improve your dental conditions. Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) are also known as "deep cleanings/scalings".
You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for six (6) hours prior to the appointment. A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home. The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
As a minimum, checkup and hygiene appointments are frequented twice each year. If you need more than 2 visits due to certain periodontal conditions, our providers will advise you to come for an additional 1-2 more visits the same year. Checkup appointments are beneficial because we can point out potential concerns before they become a big problem.
Pain is expected after surgery once local anesthetics wear off. Take the prescribed pain medications around the clock for the first three days or as needed basis. We are an opioid/narcotic free practice. Tylenol and Ibuprofen should be taken every 6-8 hours or as directed. It is recommended to take ibuprofen around the clock for first three days, as this not only helps with pain relief but also swelling.
Surgeries that involve the sinus, require special care. This may be in the case of a sinus lift (bone graft), removal of tumor/cyst from the sinus, or a sinus exposure/perforation after removing a tooth. Certain precautions will help your healing and you are instructed to carefully follow these directions.

AMAZING!!! Having a background in dentistry I don’t trust a lot of dentist in Jersey but you guys can COUNT on Dr.Jenny she takes her time and explains to you everything that is going on in your mouth which is CRUCIAL! My family and I have been seeing Dr Lau for 15+ years. Have had really good experience with cleanings, wisdom teeth removal, root canal, and getting crowns put in. Dr Lau always explains exactly what he’s doing, asking if I have any questions before starting. Love having the flexibility to visit this location, Chinatown, and Madison. Cannot recommend enough!

My wife has been going to Dr. Derek Lau for the past 15 years and I just had my first visit there last week and I was very happy with everything. He is an excellent dentist and has a true passion for the customer and dental work he provides. Dr. Lau explains everything and shows you what he is going to do and his prices were very reasonable. The dental office is super clean, very new and very modern technology - especially the full teeth exam. His wife and son work with him there and they are very nice. They are also open on Sundays which is awesome. Thanks again :) Paul
