I recently purchased a violin from Corilon, and had a great experience with the entire process. Specifically, it was the "19th century French violin by Nicolas Morlot" which has a painting of a merman figure on the back. The description that they had given for the violin's tone of "warm, mature, rich in overtones, resonant" was definitely accurate.

The warmth and resonance on the violin is wonderful and I have been able to enjoy its performance in practices and orchestra rehearsals since its delivery to me about a month ago. Although I had been initially skeptical of purchasing a violin online without trying it in-person at a store first, I definitely feel that this was a great choice and well worth the price that I had paid for it (approximately $3,200).

I would recommend Corilon to anybody looking to purchase a fine antique instrument at a fair price. If you too are skeptical of buying online, just know that they have an equally fair 30-day return policy to help give confidence in the purchase process. They were also prompt and helpful when I emailed their team with a few questions I had about the violin's history and restoration process, since I had never used an antique violin before this one.

I listened to the recordings of several instruments which I found very useful. Eventually I chose one violin and ordered it on the internet from the UK. The few questions I had Corilon answered immediately. I received my violin within a week. It arrived safe and in very nice condition. When I played the instrument you could tell that the recording I listened to originally was true to the violin. I am very happy and I look forward to enjoying my instrument for many years to come. Dear Dr Roeben, I am happy with my violin which I purchased 4 months ago. The setup is good with a new set of strings, and its sound is as described online. The online photos are very accurate. After flying to Munich and spending a day at the shop and trying out several violins, with the help of the staff I chose the right violin for me. I write this review as a purchaser of 3 instruments. I am not a professional musician but did play the viola from 2nd grade to high school. My 12 year old son plays in orchestra; classical music is hyper competitive in the Washington, D.C. Area. Dr. Roeben can select instruments when you give enough information on what you want. Two years earlier, we happened to find her shop while on vacation in Germany.

She picked out the violin which we bought. After emailing this time around on specifics for a new violin and price, she again picked another fine violin. I did test out 15 violins before concluding that the one she picked was the best choice. Clearly as a German based shop, she has the widest selection of German instruments. Still she does get fine instruments made in Italy and other countries.

I did purchase for my son an Italian made violin and a Czech made Viola for my younger son. Happily the viola just arrived shipped from Germany the other week.
