Medicare is a Federal government-sponsored health program for Americans over age 65 and people under 65 with qualified disabilities. Medicare has four "parts" - A, B, C and D. However, understanding what Medicare covers and does not cover can be complicated and confusing. Luckily, Crumes Insurance is here to help you navigate different Medicare supplement plans.
Medicare Advantage plans, or Medicare Part C, are popular private insurance alternatives to Traditional Medicare. In fact, about one-third of Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan. These plans combine Part A, Part B and usually Part D into one, convenient plan. They cover all Medicare services and many also offer extra coverage for dental, hearing and vision.
Prescription drug plans, or PDPs, help pay the cost of prescription medications. PDPs are offered by private insurance companies and cover a portion of your prescription drug expenses. Because the medications covered vary by company and plan, it's important to review your current medications with your Medicare agent to make sure you have the most cost-effective plan that covers what you need.
Medicare Supplement plans, also known as Medigap plans, are designed to cover specific healthcare costs that are not covered by Original Medicare. Medigap premiums depend on the insurer, where you live and the exact plan. If you sign up for one of these plans when you first enroll for Medicare, you can't be denied and the insurance provider can't charge you more for pre-existing conditions.
