James L. Shook, CPA P.C
For more than thirty years, James L. Shook has been the CPA firm of choice for businesses and high net worth individuals on the West Coast and throughout the Pacific Northwest. While we offer a comprehensive range of tax and financial services, it is our uniquely dedicated approach that distinguishes our firm among our peers: We take the time and make the effort to fully understand our clients' challenges.

The value of your investment is reflected through consistent and meaningful guidance from year to year through the entirety of your company's business cycle.
Services
After completing college and passing the CPA exam in Indiana, Jim Shook moved to Oregon in 1981 to join a local CPA firm. In 1994 he established his own firm based on the philosophy of building strong personal relationships with clients. This philosophy, along with personal attention and care for each client's needs, has served the firm well.
We refer to our firm's business model as high quality, with personal attention to each client's needs. We work with businesses as they plan for expansion, retirement or any number of critical maneuvers, such as transitioning from one generation to the next.

We design and implement retirement plans, help with tax and estate planning-we even serve as an off-site 'accounting department' for companies outsourcing accounts payable and receivable, payroll and other essential bookkeeping functions.
Through the years, we've enjoyed working with a diverse client base-a large percentage being local, family owned businesses and closely held companies. While some financial challenges are unique to a particular enterprise, many have common challenges. What can be done to lower income taxes? What can be done to run a more profitable business and at the same time, minimize debt?
We can calculate the value of your current business or one you may be interested in acquiring. How do I lower my income taxes? How do I run a business to be more profitable, increase cash flow, achieve my goals, and still minimize debt or get out of debt altogether? How do I know when I have sufficient assets for expansion, retirement and my other goals?

I have been working with Jeremy Shook for advice and tax services for nearly a decade, and Jim before that. Close to another decade. They've advised me through new business formations, business partnership changes, life changes and it has always been a great comfort to know they are in my corner. Never have I had an issue or a problem. More importantly, I've never had a worry that the work wasn't done right. I recommend them to business associates and personal friends all the time. Cheri provides a friendly greeting whether I call or show up at the office, and I almost look forward

James did our taxes last year. He initially told me that he would charge me $795 to complete them. Later on he found that he had to also do a foreign earned income paper and said that his fee would be slightly higher to complete that. He ended up charging me $1399 and he filed the paper late! I complained that charging me $599 extra was not a slight increase in fees, but he would not negotiate with me. I found a new CPA to do my taxes (5 stars on yelp). She did an excellent job for only $579.
