Subodh Swaroop was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After moving to Huntington Beach in 1987, he discovered a new appreciation for warm weather and has never left! He enjoys hiking, exploring coastal Orange County and is a self-professed "foodie." Fun fact: You will most likely listen to 80's music in his dental chair.
Dr. Swaroop attended the University of California Irvine and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology. After working briefly in pharmaceutical research with Allergan, he relocated to Northern California to pursue his Doctor of Dental Science at The University of the Pacific, graduating in 1999.

I would give this place zero stars if I could! Scammed my elderly father. This dentist upcharges on unnecessary costs. Told my elderly 70 year old father he needed a deep cleaning that costed close to 1 grand. Look else where to save yourself a headache.

I've been going to Dr. Swaroop for years and I've always had really positive experiences. I'm always presented with the best options for taking care of my teeth, but never pressured to do anything.
Last year, I had an accident and suffered major trauma to multiple teeth. It was one of the scariest things I've ever had to go through, but Dr. Swaroop and his team helped me through the entire process. Not only did they take care of my teeth, they took care of me. The level of empathy and patience was exceptional!
In addition to exceptional care, Dr. Swaroop took the time to write to my insurance

Doctor Swaroop is an excellent dentist. He is patient and took the time to explain procedure with available options so that I was able to come to a decision about my dental health with confidence. The staff at Smile HB Dental and Orthodonics is caring and friendly. Both Maria and Melissa are lovely people who go the extra mile for their patients. I highly recommend this office.

Today was my first visit to Dr Swaroop. I had an old crown that fell out ( he did not do the old crown it was probably 15 to 20 years old) and unfortunately it was damaged so Dr. Swaroop told me he needed to replace the crown. He was kind enough to do the all of the prep work for the new crown today instead of having me come back another day which I greatly appreciated since I live 40 mInutes away. Clean and professional dental office. First impression is important. The lobby is well equipped with amenities such as coffee, water and magazine while you wait. Dr. Steven Nguyen is gentle and very informative about procedures or service being done. He is honest and does not recommend treatment if it's not necessary. I recently received my aligners, a more advanced technology to the alternative invisalign so I highly recommend Dr. Nguyen for the ortho treatment in addition to general dental service.

Stay away from Dr Swaroop! He scams patients! I went in looking for a new dentist when I moved into the area. I got the x-rays and was told I had part of a metal filling missing by the tech. I scheduled the appointment to have it fixed. When I went in he rudely said he doesn't know who told me I had part of the filling missing but that I did have a cavity. He did a horrible job of filling a non-existent cavity on the same tooth as the missing filling. He left sharp edges too! So here's the thing with yelp if a bad review was posted you can pay money to get it taken off. My dental insurance referred me here and I regret taking their advice. This doctor is rude and has horrible bedside manner's. I myself just like many people do not like the dentist. To be completely honest I hadn't gotten dental care for a couple years now. I was told that had multiple cavities. On my first check up they immediately tried to talk me into getting braces through them. I will never understand how I can have an upstanding, good job, but no matter it's always subpar type dental insurance. Even when I met the dentist I didn't like him, he was being very mean to his dental hygienists. I am 40 and have had only one cavity in my life. Don't know what happened to his other yelp which had super low reviews, but I will post again. I went in after my mother suggested that I try him because he's great. I would not say great is the correct word to describe what happened. So i made an appointment and went in the next day. First they did X-rays totally normal. He went over them with me and asked if I had ever had any cavities told him my back 2 molars with white fillings. He went on to tell me I had no fillings but instead had 6 cavities and that

Dr. Swaroop is a crook. Its been a couple of years since I have been because I moved, but I still feel the effects of unnecessary dental work. He, and his staff, made me feel like crowns, "deep cleanings" and fillings were absolutely necessary, but come to find out- I didn't need them. My dentist now, who is a freaking prince among men compared to pirate Swaroop, has never needed to fill, crown, drill or anything beyond a standard cleaning. New to this office for deep cleaning. I really like the way Dr Nguyen makes me feel. I get very anxious each time I visit the dentist. So far my treatment has not been painful during the scaling. Next day not painful either. Dr Nguyen gives me honest advice and suggestions. Definitely recommend this office and friendly staff.

So I've been coming here for about 4 years now and have nothing but amazing service from dr Swaroop he is highly qualified doing two of my root of canals and shaping my teeth to fit crowns with exact Precision his staff is extraordinary and always puts a smile on my face when I come get work done

Great care! Literally every time I go to a dentist I feel horribly guilty when I walk out. Dr. Swaroop is the homie! Not only does he not make you feel disgusting, he gets you excited about making your teeth pretty. I've never enjoyed going to the dentist, but I enjoyed my time at Dr. Swaroop's offices! I can't believe I'm saying I'm excited to my teeth cleaned!

Dr. S has been my dentist ever since he took over the practice a few years back. He has helped me so much and I'm so grateful for that. I have had a slew of dental problems and Dr.S and his team always take care of me to the best of their ability. I live all the way in south county and refuse to switch to a closer location. The patient care and service is just amazing, so why fix something that isn't broken.

I was vacationing in Huntington Beach from Canada when I developed a dental emergency, I was told by a friend of mine to use HB Family Dental care regarding my dental issue. I called into the office and I was immediately asked to come in the next day.

Please keep your family away from Dr. Swaroop. He completely messed up my teeth. He was arrogant and rough with me. He did not wait till I was numb before he started working on my teeth. He told me that I needed 13 crowns and being my trusting self I believed every word he told me. He put in 13 crowns in a matter of a couple weeks, and I paid him around $10,000.00. Six months later my crowns started to pop off. I went to another dentist who advised me that the crowns were done incorrectly and that I would need to have them all replaced. I met Dr. Swaroop while taking a very comprehensive (and intense) course in orthodontics. He is one of the instructors and I have had the pleasure of having him as our instructor several times. His knowledge of orthodontics and dentistry is impressive. I frequently send my orthodontic cases to him for his evaluation and second "opinion". He always responds to my needs promptly and is very thorough in his recommendations. I would entrust someone as knowledgeable and caring as him with my dental and orthodontic needs any day. I recommend him highly and am thinking seriously about coming to California
