I was looking for a new CPA and found John Brands by chance through reading reviews online. I'm really glad I connected with him.
His process was streamlined. He was able to do everything digitally which I appreciated. He was extremely responsive. He was also less expensive than my previous CPA, who required paper documents to be filled out.
He was very knowledgeable on backdoor Roth IRAs and gave me pointers that my previous CPA neglected to tell me. I'll file with John again next year and recommend him to my friends.

I have used JH Brand for 4 or 5 years - he has been responsive to my questions and when an issue came up (I omitted an investment statement accidently) he contacted IRS and everything was corrected with no penalties. he has been great -always fitting me in. I typically met John in person but 2020 everything was remote with electronic files and a client portal - seemless.

I would caution anyone looking to use John for their tax-filing purposes. All seemed to be good and well, until it wasn't.
I used John's services for two years. The first year was pretty standard. The second year we had a few issues with a non-Illinois state tax return, where an issue was overlooked and we later were contacted by that state that we had unpaid taxes. This is a scary situation, no doubt, but it was eventually resolved - not quickly, but he showed a little urgency. My major disappointment was when I was corresponding with John to file taxes this year, and he suddenly decided to deny

John was amazing! I definitely recommend his services. He really knows his stuff. With a small business, 1099s galore, investment properties, etc., my husband and I are not easy customers. Because of an incident with our old accountant last year, we selected John after an extensive interview search with many accountants in the area. I'm glad we did! When presented with our complicated situation, he didn't bat an eye and immediately proposed a few tricks that would save us more than double on our taxes than it would to cost hire him...Seemingly simple tricks that our old accountant either missed or didn't know. I used John Brand as my accountant last year and could not be happier with the results. Sadly, my accountant passed away around April of 2013 so I filed an extension for 2012. I walked into Mr. Brand's office in October very disorganized and anxious. He helped me get organized and took me though the forms step-by-step. He is a professional and knows how to file an airtight return. I will definately use his services again this year come April.

I've used about 3 or 4 different tax services since moving to Chicago in 2008. John is the best. He's extremely professional and very well organized. I found John on Yelp and he had good reviews so I gave him a call and I'm glad I did. As usual, I procrastinated to prepare my taxes and was in a huge hurry to get them finished ASAP. He was very accomodating to my schedule and we got them finished very quickly. He found things that I could have been writing off for years that my previous accountant didn't mention. He was also a very likable guy and I actually had a good time chit-chatting during the preparation process- a first for me when it comes to paying taxes.

Found John here on yelp, he had more reviews previously not sure what happened to all them. There where about 7-10 reviews all of which where positive
I found myself in a bind to file my tax extension before the Oct deadline when my other accountant fell through. Of the 3 people I contacted from yelp he was the only one to respond and help me with my issues.
He was friendly, helpful, and I will definitely be using him in the future. His office is in his home which makes for a comfortable stress free setting.
