Estate planning is the process of coordinating and implementing an individual's financial and medical affairs in order to achieve advantageous results. Do you want to protect you, your family, and your assets in the event of your untimely incapacity or death? If you already have an estate plan, congratulations! If you do not have an estate plan, pretend for a moment that you were either involved in a really bad accident (car accident, slip and fall, etc) or suffered from Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease and were rendered totally incapacitated.
Matthew W. Harris, Esq., LL.M is here to protect you, your family and your assets. I would like for you to imagine for a moment that you were involved in a slip and fall or perhaps a car accident. I want you yo imagine further that you are rendered incapacitated. Imagine being incapacitated for weeks, months or even years.
In a Marin County conservatorship, the Superior Court (probate court) has the power to issue a protective order appointing a competent adult (called a conservator) to assist another usually frail adult (called a conservatee) with his or her physical and medical needs (conservator of the person) or financial affairs (conservator of the estate).
When a loved one passes away it is no doubt sad and extremely painful. However, after an individual's death, certain steps must occur according to California and federal law. Probate addresses these steps. A last will and testament is a written instrument directing who will own the decedent's property (real and tangible) upon the decedent's death.

If you are looking for a good attorney and want one you can trust look no further. We have a local business and Mathew Harris has helped us with a few cases we were involved in. Mathew communicates thoroughly throughout the process, is very knowledgeable and his pricing is more than fair. Needless to say he has prevailed in these cases and could not be happier with the results he produces. Do yourself a favor and call Mathew first, you will save yourself alot of time, money and headaches you might get with other firms. We could not be

I am pleased to write a review for Matt. I first met him as a new neighbor across the street from me. He is a kind, helpful, and friendly man with a lovely family. When my last sibling died in 2018, I asked Matt to help me review and update all my estate planning documents. He did a wonderful job, taking my outdated information, determining the changes I wanted to make, and explaining to me new changes that he recommends that I adopt. All of that information came back to me in one completed notebook, which was easy to access, have notarized and officially filed. All the details were taken

With three young children, my wife and I knew we needed a plan in case anything ever happened to us. We didn't even know where to begin. Our CPA highly recommended Matthew Harris, an estate planning attorney here in Marin. From the beginning, Matt was kind, patient, and extremely reliable. He went out of his way to make things easier for us when it came to meetings because he understands what it's like to have little kids running all over the place. Matt addressed hypothetical situations we had never even considered and was always available to advise us when we got stuck. Matt responded promptly

My original Trust was done in 2004, and I assumed that would be good for many years, like most people. Then, I was told Trusts and Estate Plans should be reviewed every 5 years or so, as lives and situations are constantly in flux. So, after 12 years and life and financial changes I found Matthew Harris, ESQ, explained the numerous reason for a planning review. He is super low pressure, nice guy who genuinely wants to help. Matthew "cleaned up" my outdated Trust, prepared a new one. Now, I can go about my life with a piece of mind. Definitely, contact him if your Trust is more than 5 years old

We knew we needed an estate plan, but kept putting it off...who wants to think about the "what ifs" associated with bad things happening. Then a close friend of ours was involved in a serious accident, and we realized that a horrible accident without a plan could potentially turn into a nightmare for us. Luckily we found Matthew Harris.

Mr. Harris seamlessly guided us through the decisions and paperwork, making us wonder why we didn't do this sooner. I have a daughter from a previous marriage, and Matthew was able to talk us through different scenarios and create a a plan that would

As a father with two young children, I knew that I needed an estate plan in case something bad ever happened to me. My close-friend recommended Matthew W. Harris, an estate planning lawyer in San Rafael. I was hesitant to meet with a lawyer because I thought the whole estate planning process would be too complicated and too darn expensive. Boy was I wrong! Mr. Harris was kind, gentle and was able to convey complex legal jargon to me with ease and clarity.
Mr. Harris created my estate plan that addressed all of my wishes and concerns. God forbid if anything should happen to me, I can rest more
