Great event! My second half marathon, first in California and what a view! Several miles were completed along the coast line. Mostly a flat course with a few rolling hills. I was told to train for hills, but I don't think it's necessary.

The race was ran like clockwork. Start time was prompt, packet pick up easy with a variety of vendors, plenty of hydration stations, and the crowd and energy were amazing throughout the whole race! It seems like the entire town gets into the event. The race swag was exceptional as well, long sleeved shirt and and quarter zipped long sleeved shirt

This was my first half marathon of the year, and was legit dumpling bae's first half marathon ever! This race starts a bit east of the freeway, then heads west and down the coast and wasn't particularly hilly either. Despite our minimal training, we finished the course strong because there were many water stations and the sun came out during the second half of the race. This race was easier than anticipated because the course was pretty straight forward (lol) compared to the La Jolla half or the AFC half for the triple crown series.

The finish line festival wasn't particularly big

The first of the San Diego Triple Crown Series! The Carlsbad half is always a great way to start off the year.

If you've never run a half before, I'd definitely recommend starting with this one. The course is fairly flat with no difficult inclines to conquer compared with the other two races of the series (La Jolla and Downtown).

They did a new challenge this year called the Double Down, where you run the 5K and the half the same morning for a total of 16.2 miles. If you're looking for more or less, there are options for the full marathon or the 5K run. (So cal 3x5 is similar

This review is for the 2019 full marathon. This was my first full marathon.

Organization - this race runs like a well oiled machine. Every logistical aspect was perfect.

Course - my guess is that all but 3-4 miles of the race you'll have a great view of the Pacific Ocean. I really love running by the beach, so this was a great race for me. The course is not flat - so during training make sure you are doing some hills. That being said, the course is more rollers vs. flat out 2k elevation incline. Road conditions are very good - very few spots where the road isn't level, little

I might give it 3-stars because it's always not cool when you pay so much money for a half then unexpectedly, the 5k'ers get an earlier start. I didn't start until 8am and it was expected to be a pretty hot day. I believe they changed it up for the 2018 race... it definitely needs to go back to the way it originally was for next year! The course was beautiful though and there was a ton of entertainment along the way. Bands on top of bands on top of bands! Plenty of spectators too and it was just such a festive race. Swag bag included a technical long sleeve and sweater and the finishers

I just finished the triple crown series of this year, and looking back.. this is by far my favorite course!

Keep in mind this is my 5th 1/2, I'm a slow and steady type of runner (12-13 min miles), and this is my second time doing this course.

This race is in January and the weather is perfect for running!

My friend picked up my packet so I cant comment on the expo.

The start was at the mall/shopping area, and there were plenty of bathrooms (stores and porta-potties). They had different waves of corrals which is so helpful! The course is nice and flat, it does lead to a gradual hill but

This was my first half marathon back in 2013. I have done the Carlsbad Half 3 times and the Full 1 time. The Half course is mainly flat while the Full has some good elevation throughout the course. Love that you are running along the Pacific Ocean, especially for the Half Marathon. Good support throughout the course. Plenty of parking at what used to be called Plaza Camino Real in Carlsbad.

Good course for beginners. The course is super mellow, as in there aren't quite big hills, just small ones here and there.

This is my 2nd half marathon, but my first time aiming for the Triple Crown. Carlsbad half is doable without training, or minor training because more than half of the time you'll be running on straight flat nice roads.

It's a very beautiful run by the picturesque ocean. You run through their downtown, beautiful big beach houses, and the ocean. It started our very cold by the coast, but we got a little sunlight and a nice breeze. Be sure to put on sunblock

One of the most organized races that I've ever participated in. Might just be my new favorite race.

Both the expo and the race are at the Shoppes at Carlsbad mall, so there's plenty of parking on race day. Also a runner drop off area if you choose to take Uber or Lyft.

Beautiful course. A nice amount of hills to challenge you, but they're not bad at all. Plenty of water stations, electrolyte drinks, and gels. Nice medals and swag, too.

My favorite part has to be the crowd support by the citizens of Carlsbad.

Thank you very much . See you next year.

First half marathon!

This was a great race to run my first half and I definitely recommend.

The start/end of the race is at the Carlsbad mall, so there is plenty of parking. There are people directing traffic, so getting isn't too bad. Unfortunately there are only Porta potty available as the mall closed, but there are a ton of them.

The course was very nice. Overall it was pretty flat, but some some small hills. The course was awesome, you run through Carlsbad Village and along the coast. There are so many people out cheering and supporting runners. There were also maybe 2 or 3 bands

Half #3, 2015!

I love this run!

It's a moderately flat, out-and-back course, shouldering yet another one of Southern California's picturesque beaches--surfers surfing, dog walkers walking... Meandering first through Carlsbad Village--so quaint and laid back--the race continues south along the Pacific Coast Highway, passing alongside the Buena Vista Lagoon as it makes its way toward the rising sun stretching over the horizon. It's beautiful! Actually, it's difficult to keep pace, as I'm wanting to snap picture after picture during my run. It's okay, though. It

First run of the year, and my first half marathon. My feelings were mixed, and let's not forget my pre-existing injured left knee.

THE GOOD 1 - The run starts at the Carlsbad Mall. Traffic can be bad, but you pretty much get a parking spot without the hassle of finding one, or even paying for one. They direct you where to park old school Disneyland style, and you are set. If you are able to walk after the run, then you can go to the mall. I grew up in South San Diego, and I had no idea this mall even existed. Lol.

THE BAD 1 - Unlike most of my other runs, they did not e-mail any information

Very well organized race from beginning to end!

Pre-race:
Loved how the parking is directly adjacent to the actual race and expo.
Expo got too crowded... they should consider having some of the vendors outdoors or have a bigger tent. It was hard to maneuver through folks and strollers without bumping into them.
Loved how there's a semi-heated area and seating/stretching area for runners - "thank you for pampering us".
There are an ample number of restrooms for all, so only had a short wait right before the race.

Race:
Great scenery (gorgeous coastal view) and lots of support

This is the first of the series for the Triple Crown.

I must admit for a large event it was like a well-oiled machine from the start. I am not sure if I remember correctly, this is the only race that you are required to drive to the actual site of the event and not to Roadrunner sports to pick up your race bib. Is it a good thing? I am not sure since it was a drive from where I am coming from. We were able to explore the merchandise after the bib pick-up. Everything was under this huge tent so we were not exposed to the elements (not that it was hot or cold at 70 plus degree weather).

The start

I love this marathon. It is not a mega marathon and the organization is always top notch. Most participants during the weekend run their other race, an excellent half marathon which I've ran for a couple of years before switching to their full marathon. The course is a roller, you're almost always either running up or down a gentle hill. There are some few flat spots. 80% of the time, you're just a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean. Carlsbad in my books is a great city to run a marathon. The logistics for this race could not be any easier. You can park your car in the mall

I think the Carlsbad Half Marathon is a great race to do. It was my first half marathon race in 2006 but unfortunately, I haven't been back to participate...until today. While I've spectated several times, my preference is to do races in warmer temperatures. = ) And of course, the wet weather this morning was all the more reason for this to be a great rule of thumb for me to follow more closely.

The expo / packet pick-up was decent and they got you in and out pretty quickly. The vendors seem to be the same at every single expo so there wasn't anything new that I felt I needed

I didn't know what I got myself into...

Some of my friends signed up for the half-marathon and I kept procrastinating the signup and it bit me because by the time I did sign up, the half marathon was full...ahh shizz.

Well I figured since I was already on the website, what the hey...just sign up for the full. And this was just over 3 months before race day...Ouch!!!!

First of all, the full marathon starts at 6am. Well I'm not complaining about the early start time. I'm complaining about the weather, it's January, and it's by the ocean. So on race day...yah it was 37

WoWoWeeeeeeee!!!!! I finally did it! I accomplished one of my goals in life and completed a half marathon. This was definitely a good beginner's race (easy run, no major inclines, gorgeous view)

Leave early to avoid any delays/traffic/ parking/etc. My bro and I got dropped off so that was a plus. Overall, the event was very organized. Water stations were set up appropriately and I had enough fluid to keep me hydrated each mile.

Going into the race, I had 3 "prayers" in mind:

1. Run non-stop (NEVER stop)
2. Avoid any minor/major injuries
3. FINISH in a decent time - I was striving
