What is Periodontal Disease? Periodontal Disease is an infection of the gums which destroys bone that hold your teeth in place. Most patients have no idea they have Periodontal Disease until it is too late or their dentist tells them they have gum disease. If not treated, it often gets worse. Regular self-care and dental visits can help prevent or control periodontal disease.
Dr. Hovick utilizes both surgical and non-surgical treatment of periodontal disease, performs cosmetic procedures, and places dental implants to replace missing teeth. The following will provide you with a wealth of information on all of these procedures. Scaling and Root Planing is a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and tartar from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root (removing bacterial toxins).
Soft Tissue Grafts (Root Coverage): Exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession. Gum graft surgery will repair the defect and help to prevent additional recession and bone loss. Gum grafts can be used to cover roots or develop gum tissue where absent due to excessive gingival recession. During gum graft surgery, your periodontist takes gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Endosteal is the most common type of implant. The various types include screws, cylinders or blades surgically placed into the jawbone.
Discomfort is best controlled with 800mg of Advil or Motrin (Ibuprofen) every 4-6 hours as needed. Some pinkness in saliva is normal for the first day. If there is bleeding, apply a piece of moist gauze or any tea bag with pressure for 30 minutes. If you have a denture, plate, partial, or flipper, ask if you can wear it following surgery.

Dr. Hovick was professional, friendly, answered all my questions and explained my periodontal procedure with detailed information. My procedure went perfectly and I am very pleased with his work. The staff is also professional, friendly and will answer questions quickly. I will be returning there for any additional periodontal work that needs to be done. Highly recommend with no reservations.

I was referred here for the low cost in comparison to other periodontists. You get what you pay for. Part of my surgery was botched, was redone for free and botched again, this time with an immediate infection. Both times were traumatizing enough to give me a new fear of dental work that I have never had before this experience. I was told that if I'm unhappy with it to find another periodontist. I still had to pay for all of it (which I was misled about the cost/insurance coverage from the start) and ended up having to have the surgery a third time through someone else. It has been 10 months of

I have no idea why Dr. Hovick has no reviews. I guess he's the unsung hero, the little-known rock star. I had to undergo a gum graft a month ago and was not looking forward to the prospect. I've never had anything "major" done since I was 20 when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. But this guy, despite the unpleasantness of what needed to be done, was a straight arrow of precision. He could probably do this procedure in his sleep. Calm, direct, efficient. I expressed my specific concern surrounding the procedure and he adjusted based on that. Also, people told me this would be really painful afterward
