The Pet Mechanic is an animal hospital and primary care center with quality care at an affordable price. We provide a full range of services to keep your pet happy and healthy. The Pet Mechanic partners with local rescues to provide the same high quality medical care to some of Philadelphia's homeless, neglected and abused animals.
I have only had the best experiences at the Pet Mechanic. They have taken care of my chow chow Coco as well as my foster chow Grizzly. They are extremely inexpensive, very friendly, always get me right in with little wait, and always take the time to talk through any issues with me. Even though they are inexpensive, this is the best vet care my dog has received.

Services
The Pet Mechanic was founded in 2010 with the goal to provide excellent medical care for your dog and cat at fair and affordable prices. The Pet Mechanic provides primary care medical services for your dog and cat including preventative care, important diagnostic testing and treatments for sick pets (including an in-house lab and x-ray), physical exams, dental cleaning and a wide variety of surgical procedures.
The Pet Mechanic is a full service center that offers quality care at an affordable price. We have a fully equipped, state-of-the-art lab capable in many instances of providing test results in mere minutes. We recommend that all dogs and cats undergo laboratory testing at least every year. Our in-house pharmacy makes it easy to refill your pet's prescription medications!
As one of the largest veterinary primary care practices in Philadelphia, The Pet Mechanic has earned a reputation as an attentive, accessible and affordable place for pets. When you pair our knowledgeable staff with the best technology in the field, it forms the best care in the region.
We also believe communication is key to fostering the best outcomes, which is why we will soon be equipped with unparalleled patient management software that gives you more options available to schedule appointments, refill medications, and review veterinary medical information.

The staff and management at The Pet Mechanic work hard to provide medical care for those who absolutely need it the most: Philadelphia's homeless, neglected and abused animals. We are a proud partner of Saved Me Animal Rescue, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. By supporting their life saving work, we help give back to the community.
Today our pets are living longer, healthier lives. We care for your pet not just like they are part of your family but part of ours. We want them to achieve a happier, healthier, and more active life. We recommend yearly laboratory screening test to monitor organ function much like your own physician.

When we got our pandemic puppy, we had trouble finding a vet that could see him within the first few weeks of his arrival home. The Pet Mechanic on South Street was able to get us in within a week, so we eagerly made the appointment.
This was August 2020, so there were strict rules in place regarding the number of people allowed in the waiting area. We were not allowed to go back into the room with our pup. We waited in the lobby and filled out some paperwork. A vet tech came out to ask us a few questions and let us know about their "Puppy Plan". For a little over $700, the plan covered

The pet mechanic fishtown has been my dog’s vet since he’s been in Philly and before I adopted him. They have been my go to for everything and when my boyfriend adopted a dog with heartworm, I was completely confident in his decision because the voucher for treatment was with the pet mechanic. And the one time I had to call for a last minute… appointment for a skin issue, they were able to fit me in & that was a massive relief as I’m a major worrier about my dog. I cannot say enough good things about the pet mechanic. I highly recommend both locations and any of their

I've been taking/trying to take my dog to Pet Mechanic for 2 years now. The staff are nice and take good care of my dog. However, they are never available when I need an appointment within a week. 90% of the time I end up having to make an appointment with my other vet who is farther away. Pet Mechanic also wanted to charge $2k for a dental surgery that my other vet only charged $900 for while still taking amazing care of my dog. So I do not trust them to offer me the best prices or to have availability when I need them. As a busy student, I find those to be two of the most important requirements

We love the pet mechanic! We started going to the one on south street when we lived in South Philly and our dogs absolutely love it there. Our dog Stella has had to have two teeth removed in the past few months and Dr. Foley does a great job and took great care of her!
We were worried about doing surgery but the team made sure to check in and made us feel at ease. So mush so that the second surgery was a walk in the park. Th Rey also do a great job in supporting our insurance claims and making sure we have all of the notes to submit the claim.
Everyone there is friendly and helpful. We go to

I took my new dog for his first exam to The Pet Mechanic in Fishtown and it went so well. I have a 7 year old pit mix that was in the shelter for 4 months and was super nervous and anxious while there. He is… really blossoming in our home, and we are so thankful for the gentleness that the staff at Pet Mechanic handled our pupper. He enjoyed the experience so much that on his walk today he wanted so badly to go into Pet Mechanic - I basically had to drag him away!

We LOVED this vet. Leaving was so hard but we moved to a new city. Our dog is anxious for life ha and the vet was so attentive to his needs and loving with him no matter how shy he was. They also always eased our minds and complimented how sweet he was despite being difficult for them. Would 10/10 recommend either location.

The staff is super super helpful. They didn't force me to spend a lot of money on tests for my dog at the time (short on money) and didn't pass any judgement. Dr. Nathan Foley did his examination of my dog on the ground, which made him so much more comfortable than up on the table! I'd never seen a vet do that before. Super great, really recommend.

I used to have Dr Lamon as my vet who always took great care of my two cats and dog, since she has moved I’ve been seeing Dr Wills. She’s so patient, calm and good with my 3. My dog Lela can be difficult to work with but she always sits on the floor with her and Lela loves her. She never tries to persuade me into unneeded things and always does a thorough exam. I highly recommend her!

I LOVE dr Lamon, she's the only doctor I'll see. My lela is a 10 year old beagle spaniel who is very anxious and she loves dr Lamon (the first vet she is friendly with). Dr Lamon is so patient and friendly and takes her time without forcing you into any unneeded things for your fur babies. Dr. Lamon operated on Lela this past Thursday, removing a large mass on her side. Not only did I fully trust her taking care of my girl, she did an excellent job and really helped us in all aspects. I cannot day enough good things about her!
UPDATE:
Dr lamon moved so I sadly had to get another

Dr. Firestine is knowledge, kind, and patient. My cat had an x-ray and she took the time to show us the film and explain to me what she was seeing. I appreciated getting to see the rational behind her decisions.
Overall the office is very clean, the staff are welcoming, and I've had great experiences. I was going to the Banfield out of Pet Smart, but switched to the pet mechanic because it was closer to home. The prices are definitely comparable and I'm happy I went to the Pet Mechanic.

I have been to many vets around the city. Pet Mechanics is by far the best for cost and quality. The staff is professional and great with the dogs. The South Street location is clean...all the time, even after seeing so many dogs throughout the day. The vets are very good with communication, so I actually know what's going on with my dog and what I'm paying for.
I have been taking my dogs here for a few years now and overall, I am extremely satisfied.

After a horrible experience at the groomer, I took my dog in to be checked for a small cut (that turned into a scab) on her face. I was quickly told nothing could be done because it was on the face and near her eyes. The vet recommended Benadryl and a cone. On Monday, a month later, I had to take my dog to an emergency room for the same problem. When I arrived I was told that the dog had an intense infection and the skin would need to be soaked & scraped off. The emergency vet told me that had this been treated correctly an infection wouldn't have occurred. Not only did I pay a silly fee

My dog was having some issues, so I walked him here and set up an appointment. The front desk girl was very friendly and actually showed some concern for my dog (went to a place in another part of the city earlier that day and didn't get that).
I booked an appointment for the next day, arrived, and was quickly shown to a room. The vet and the assistant were very friendly and efficient. They explained everything that they were doing with my dog and were able to give me some medication and some simple recommendations to help him out (which worked).
Best part, too - it was pretty inexpensive

The Pet Mechanic on South Street is everything I need in a vet: Clean, timely, & knowledgable.
I love that I can call the night before or even that day for a sick exam or a general check up for my two dogs.
Their prices are extremely reasonable, as opposed to my traditional vet, Center City.
I LOVE Dr. O'Pella! She sees us right away & we're in & out in usually under 30 minutes. She's always extremely knowledgeable & helpful with my two puppies. She is also very patient with them as they are huge, dramatic babies when it comes to the vet.

After moving, we wanted to find a vet closer to home. We have brought our dog here twice and both times we had issues. They seem very incompetent. Here is a list of things that happened.
Visit 1 - Standard yearly shots
- They didn't allow my husband into the room, but he told me that he was able to see that our dog was put into some kind of restraint. Our poor dog was so scared, he messed himself. Our dog has always loved going to his other vet and we were always allowed in the room.
- They recommended no bortadello, which I thought was odd. We occasionally have to board our dog so we made
