As an attorney, I am licensed to practice law in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. The focus of my practice is primarily in Shelby County and Jefferson County; however, I have successfully argued cases before the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals and the Supreme Court of Alabama. My undergraduate degree is from Wesleyan College, where I graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors.
Matthew Griffin has been licensed to practice law since 2014 and is a lifelong resident of the Birmingham area. Prior to obtaining his Juris Doctorate degree from the Birmingham School of Law, Matt attended the University of Alabama. During law school, he was a full time employee of the Jefferson County Domestic Relations Court.
When you sign a lease for an apartment, build a house, buy a car, or apply for a credit card, there can be legal consequences. Each time you sign a legal document with another party, you both are bound by certain civil laws. If the individual or corporation who has an obligation to you fails to keep their promise, you have the right to file a lawsuit against them for restitution.
Criminal charges range from minor infractions, such as traffic and misdemeanor violations to felony charges such as drug crimes, theft, burglary, sex crimes, and even violent crimes including assault and murder. Retaining a criminal defense attorney is essential in making sure that your rights are fully represented.
If you've been charged or arrested for DUI in Birmingham, AL, you may wonder, "When do I need a DUI attorney?" Being arrested can be a frightening and stressful experience. When you are arrested, an officer is not required to read you your Miranda rights. I wish zero stars was an option. I’ve never left a bad review on anything because I can usually find the silver lining , but felt the need to do so to save someone else the trouble I’ve dealt with. Mistake #1: I hired Candice Shockley to assist me in my divorce. Mistake #2 After paying the retainer and asking repeatedly for a summary of my charges (that I NEVER received) she had the audacity to bill me for over $5,000 over the retainer fee of $2,500 and we never even went to trial. My divorce only took 4 months and for roughly 6 weeks of those 4 months Shockley was “out of the office”.

We hired Anna Sparks back in April 2021 in a child custody/child support matter. Paid her $1,500.00 up front. She never showed up for meetings, or court hearings. Always at “other” court hearings or more important cases. After the last meeting she stood us up at, we decided to part ways. Mrs. Sparks was also moving to Atl and will spend us a final bill 😂😂 For what?? She hasn’t did anything for us. We need to send her a bill for our time and our services. She will not be an attorney long that’s for sure!

Candace Shockley just took my money. I paid her a $2500 retainer fee and the cost of her poor services added up quickly. The one thing that added up was the phone calls. Every phone call she made for me, she charged me $300. By the way I don't know what those phone calls were for. I was awarded custody of the house I shared with my husband. He broke into the house. I had a security camera that showed him damaging the front door and breaking a window behind the house. The police was called and he encouraged to file a restraining order based on my husban's erratic behavior. The officer felt I was

Just not satisfied with the way my case is being handled. Court date is in 6 days and have not gotten any info pertaining to the case itself. Only that district at attonery hasn't gotten in touch with my attonery. Feel as if I am walking into court completely blind folded. Wouldn't recommend using this firm.
