Richard Rhoads Jr, born and raised in Kearney, Nebraska, obtained his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Dr. Rhoads then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry where he was awarded his doctorate of dental surgery degree. Dr. Rhoads is a member of the American Dental Association, the Kansas Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

The staff at Smiles by the Lake and lead dentist Richard Rhoads, Jr., DDS, believe in creating a team atmosphere between the dentist, staff, and patients to help everyone who visits the office reach their treatment goals.
Thank you for choosing our office, where we have created a comfortable environment in which you can feel confident about the dental care you receive. During your first visit, our objective is to get to know you better, to become familiar with your past dental experiences and to establish a treatment plan that will best meet your dental needs.
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visiting a dentist at least twice a year for a check-up and a professional cleaning. Our office also recommends a minimum of two visits per year. Please call our office as soon as you determine that you have a dental emergency. If you have a dental emergency during regular business hours, we will be glad to work you into our schedule.
Appointments are an important part of your treatment, as time has been reserved specifically for you. Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule. We request a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel your appointment. We are aware that unforeseen events sometimes require missing an appointment, and we appreciate your cooperation.

Not all dental hygienists are vaccinated, or believe in science. They (Beta) listen to Joe Rogan, refuse to get vaccinated, have had covid, and believe in misinformation. Ivermectin is not a treatment for covid. Dr. Rhoads should follow evidence based practice, and not let Beta spread misinformation. I also feel patients have the choice if they see a provider who is vaccinated or not. Instead they take that choice from you.

Dr. Rhoads has such a gentle manner about him. I went to have a cavity filled and am always anxious about the shot. He took his time, and it was almost painless. I said almost. He made sure that I was also set with a mouth full of cotton rolls, at my request, and started working on me. I was surprised at how quick it went. While I have been having my teeth cleaned for awhile, it was the first time that Dr. Rhoads ever had to do work in my mouth. I was impressed because I can be very critical!

I love this dental office. Have been going for a few years after transferring offices due to location/work. Very warm and inviting practice. Have only had routine hygiene cleanings but they are always on time - which is super important to me. Dr Rhodes is kind and thorough. Not super pushy on replacing my silver fillings... Lori has a very soft touch. I have referred my daughter and a co-worker there.. I highly recommend them!

I think that this an outstanding group of employees and they treat everyone with the upmost care and hospitality that I have ever seen!!! Valarie is an absolute jewel! Mieling and Debbie are awesome!
