Our pediatric dental team is committed to caring for your child's smile for many years. We love to watch our patients' smiles grow from little to big, whether we're teaching a toddler how to brush her baby teeth or fitting a little leaguer for his first athletic mouthguard. We encourage kids to get interested and involved during their visits because we truly believe that long-term oral health is a team effort.

Dr. Caitlin Barnes grew up in the Tidewater area of Southeastern Virginia, and went on to attend both college and dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University. Following a summer externship in Barrow, Alaska, Dr. Barnes joined the staff at the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital where she served as a general dentist for 2 years.
Oral health is just as important as maintaining a pleasing smile. Brushing and flossing at least twice a day, ensures this and keeps the harmful oral bacteria from multiplying quickly. Along with optimum oral hygiene at home, it is essential to visit the dentist for routine consultations at least once every six months to get the teeth and other oral tissues examined.
Accidents happen, especially with inquisitive and energetic kids. If your child experiences a dental emergency, call our office immediately! We'll talk you through the situation and schedule a same-day emergency visit if necessary. Our team will provide you with instructions on how to take care of your smile until you can come to our office to meet with us.
A limited Problem-focused dental exam is a type of emergency exam in which the dentist will diagnose any specific acute problem in your child's mouth instead of evaluating the whole dental system. During this examination, the dentist will look for any of these issues virtually and might even go with a detailed examination using X-rays or other dental equipment to examine the area that isn't visible with naked eyes.
Your dental provider may recommend your child see Dr. Barnes for treatment that is best accomplished in a pediatric dental office. We will initiate this process by scheduling a consultation appointment. Dr. Barnes will review the referral and x-rays sent from your dental provider, as well as the health history you provide as part of our new patient paperwork, before determining the treatment plan and most appropriate treatment modality.

My youngest daughter has trauma from her previous dentist and since then she didn’t like to go to the dentist. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Barnes and she is awesome. She is very patient and always listens to our concerns when it comes to my daughter’s teeth. Dr Barnes did 5 procedures on my daughter’s teeth and all of them were successful. Both of my girls seen Dr Barnes and I highly recommend her. She is the Best!

Entire staff is amazing! Just took my almost 3 year old for her first dental visit... and after a year of little to no interaction with people (thanks covid) I was very nervous about how my feral child would react to a stranger in her mouth. She did amazing! She was laughing with the doctor and let her do the full lap exam without any major freak out. Did I mention this was all during her normal nap time! Thank you Aurora children’s dentistry! You are amazing!

I am a 11 yr old patient and Dr. Barnes is awesome!! Dr. Barnes is great at making you feel comfortable even though going to the dentist can be a little scary. She is very kind and really cares about the children she sees. She is great with all ages because my little brothers see her too. From a kids point of view I give her an A+

Everyone was very professional and I felt like they really cared about us. We had a bad experience with a different dentist in the past so I was a little weary. However, Dr Barnes and her team (especially Jane) made me feel very comfortable and appreciated. Everything from preprocedure to follow up was very thorough and I didn’t feel rushed at all. Such a great group of people. I will definitely recommend to my friends!

My family had just move to Alaska about two month ago. My friend’s children who are patients at this office’s highly recommended my children to see Dr. Barnes. This morning I had to call schedule my children but was refused, the gal whom I spoke to was very welcoming and very kind however she mention per the office manager and policy I am unable to schedule my children because I don’t have their insurance information. I have a letter stating my children are covered by Denali kid but I don’t have their card with the id number that the office needed so I was refused. I just thought that wasn’t

We’ve been patients of Dr. Barnes for 3 years now. Dr. Barnes and her staff have always been extremely friendly and sweet with our girls. Our 3 year old is already able to do the appointment all by herself, with no tears, and no help needed from us. All of which is directly from the staffs calm and welcoming demeanor. Thank you Dr. Barnes and staff for helping our girls have and keep beautiful smiles!

What a wonderful office!!! I initially took my son here for his first dental appointment at 3 years old. They were so kind and gentle with him. He was initially nervous but the staff and Caitlyn put him at ease right away and it was smooth sailing for his first dental visit. Dr Barnes and her staff were professional, efficient and kind. My son had a dental emergency a few weeks ago and they fit him into the busy schedule seamlessly. I am confident that he is getting excellent care. Aurora Children's Dentistry is my son's dental home! Thank you Dr Barnes and your staff for your caring and top notch
