My name is Joseph M. Fein, and I understand the unique challenges facing children with disabilities and their families. For close to 20 years, I have watched one of the smallest babies ever born in Nassau County blossom into a kind, gentle and loveable little boy. He has conquered more in his short life than most people achieve in a lifetime. He is my son Brett. As Brett's father, I have learned what it takes to attain appropriate educational services for a special needs child, for any child for that matter, through the Board of Education.
I am special education attorney Joseph M. Fein. My law office, located in Cedarhurst and New York, is dedicated to helping families of disabled children with all issues related to education. Children with disabilities and the learning disabled have a variety of programs and resources available under state and federal law to help them succeed in school.
The Law Offices of Joseph M. Fein provides a voice for the voiceless: children with learning, physical and developmental disabilities. Depending upon the age of the child, a Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) or a Committee on Special Education (CSE) will be formed to help the disabled child with a wide variety of issues, including his or her Individualized Education Program (IEP). We walked into an IEP meeting for our son and were shocked at what OUR lawyer, Mr. Fein, was asking for! He had not communicated to us, before the meeting, what he recommended. I assumed he was advocating for what we told him we were looking for as he did not say otherwise when we met with him. He appeared to be a lawyer for the school district! I think he was taken with some of the people in the room and trying to impress. I can accept other opinions, but I did not expect to be blindsided by MY lawyer. Had to give one star.
