Services
Hope Counseling Center, established by Betty Lacine, provides therapy for children as well as adults. Betty is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She works with clients from young children to senior citizens. Her areas of specialty include sexual abuse, trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, divorce, and work issues.
Anxiety affects people of all ages. We practice mindfulness techniques, and a cognitive behavioral approach (CBT) to decreasing anxiety. We look at the root causes and determine if the underlying beliefs are realistic or not. Separation anxiety also falls under this heading and the distress experienced when separated from the support person can often be reduced.
I have worked with children with PTSD as young as two and with all ages through adults. Children who have experienced severe trauma, abuse, and/or neglect need support and treatment. Also the families that are raising the children now need support and education about PTSD, the symptoms in children, and how best to provide the nurturing and structure these children need to move forward to have the best life possible.
When children under 5 experience problems we assess them using a special tool to determine what is happening for them. It is called a DC:0-3 assessment. This extensive assessment includes three sessions to observe the child in all the important arenas. The parents, teacher, or day care provider complete some of the assessments.
