Chris and Mara began Soda Mountain Construction in 2006. Their vision took shape while specializing in fine home finish carpentry installation and quality small business management. As the years progressed, so did their business. SMC began excelling in new home construction, luxury remodels, and interior finishes while staying committed to lower volumes of work and high customer satisfaction.
As SMC continued to grow, it was unique residential building opportunities that showcased the company's talents. From 2009 to 2012, both custom and speculative projects kept their business afloat during one of Steamboat's hardest felt recessions.

This speculative project came to fruition in 2015. A developer investment firm had SMCD seek out the right property to create a niche luxury single family home to sell into Steamboat's local real estate market. The site was technical in nature and had to be leveled off creating a significant amount of earth work to get the foundation installed and fit the site appropriately.
In 2014-2015, this home came to fruition through years of hard work and dedication to our other clients. It is our principal of the company's personal home that he and his wife created for their family. Being from Cape Cod originally, Mara Rhodes intended a mountain nautical theme for the project. The site was originally filled with an aspen grove.
Working with a previous client, which turned into a key investor, we were able to create this project from concept to completion using his piece property located in Elkins Meadow. This speculative project came to fruition after studying the market and realizing there was a niche for a single family luxury home in the Steamboat Springs real estate market.
In 2016-2017, this project served as our first custom design-build project with a homeowner. The site was technical in nature, and it was tucked into the hillside between the street and the river. Multiple models and 3D renderings were studied prior to selecting the current concept that was created.
