Services
We offer several levels of sedation for our patients who are anxious about dental care. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is frequently all that is needed to make the visit go comfortably. We can also use an oral sedative for the more anxious patients. Sedation Dentistry is able to reach out and provide needed dental care to those who otherwise would not receive it.
Tom Jacobsen is a 1965 graduate of Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa. He received his undergraduate degree in General Science from the University of Iowa in 1969 and his DDS degree in 1973 from the same University. From 1973 to 1976, Dr. Jacobsen was the itinerant dental officer stationed at the Mt Edgecumbe hospital.
Our office uses modern, state-of-the-art technology to enhance patient comfort and to help you get the smile you deserve! Digital x-rays can now be taken using sensors that transmit the image directly into a computer monitor. This larger image helps the patient understand the doctor's explanations more easily and enables the doctor to "zoom in" on a specific area of the tooth.
Dr. Jacobsen has received advanced training in orthodontics (braces) and has been offering this service since 1999. His two year course of training was with the Academy of GP Orthodontics, a nationwide group for which he later served as president. Young people (and adults) who have their teeth straightened will have a more beautiful smile, but this isn't the only advantage to braces.
Implant therapy is provided in concert with the oral surgeon. It is the most elegant way to replace a missing tooth, since the adjacent teeth are not touched. The oral surgeon will place the titanium implant, under IV sedation, into the jaw bone. After some months of healing, we will be able to bolt a false tooth into the implant, restoring the area where the natural tooth was missing.
