Services
AAHA-Accredited since 1984, Cumming Veterinary Clinic has provided quality veterinary services for pet families in Cumming, Georgia, and the surrounding areas. Dr. FitzSimons bought the practice in 2005, and since that time, our clinic has tripled in size to accommodate the needs of our growing communities.
Dr. Jim FitzSimons has over 20 years experience serving the companion animals of Cumming and the surrounding communities. A graduate of the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996, Dr. FitzSimons is experienced in emergency medicine as well as general practice. His areas of special interest include senior pet wellness, internal medicine, and oncology (the treatment of cancer).
Dentistry ranks No. 2 on the list of the most undertreated wellness conditions in animals (No. 1 is obesity), making it the second most missed opportunity to keep our animals healthy and happy. At Cumming Veterinary Clinic, our high-speed, human-grade dental equipment allows us to perform a full range of dental services.
Our comprehensive in-house diagnostics are critical when your pet's health is at stake, and are also important for pre-anesthesia screenings and wellness visits when our primary goal is to rule out (or identify early-on) underlying health conditions. Our testing capabilities also help us manage serious medical problems such as diabetes, Cushing's Disease, Addison's Disease, lymphoma, and congestive heart failure.
Cumming Veterinary Clinic is pleased to offer our pet families the advantages of non-surgical, minimally invasive endoscopy, which can be used for treatments as well as diagnostics. Endoscopy involves the insertion of specialized, telescopic cameras into the part of the body being treated through tiny, keyhole incisions.

Amazing veterinary clinic! Dr. Martinez saved my dog's life! My 15 yr old shih tzu needed an emergency endoscopy because of two foreign objects in his stomach seen on x-ray. The front desk staff and Dr. Martinez took the emergency seriously and told me to come right over. Within an hour, our dog was under and performing the procedure. Turns out he had a puzzle piece stuck in his throat that was blocking his breathing. If it wasn't for Dr. Martinez and staff's quick response, I don't know if my dog would have survived. Thank you for saving our baby's life and giving us additional time with him.

I love this practice. My sweet dog has had problems with her hind legs from an old pinched nerve injury. Recently, when she started having issues, Dr. FitzSimons walked me through all her care options and made sure I understood what was happening with her injury and the steps of her recovery. He truly cares for the animals and their owners.

Honestly, not sure why this place gets such high reviews. I think they are unbelievably overpriced. I have brought two dogs in here and my guinea pig, and every time I bring them in I think I’m coming in for one thing, then they tell me there’s a few things that need to be done, and then they throw a $700 or more bill at me. For dental work, and some shots. I think it’s ridiculous. You are all really need to stop overcharging, be realistic with what people can afford, and do the right thing. I need to bring my dog in for dental work but I’m very hesitant because I’m scared you guys are

We've been here twice so far with our ferret. He has been coughing frequently, the first time they said he seemed healthy and sent him home with some cough medicine, it didn't help. So we brought him back. Arrived well before appointment time (we live fairly far so to accommodate for possible traffic we have to leave early), parked in what we thought was a curbside spot, texted the number, told them where we were, and were asked for a phone number, we sent it and never got another response, we did however get a phone call 10 minutes after our appointment time asking if we were still coming. I love this vet clinic. Before I found them I was going to a local vet clinic. They never fixed my dogs problem, just kept covering up the issues.
Dr. Jim Fitzsimons is awesome! He pin pointed the problem(s) and has prescribed the correct medications for it, therefore my dog is doing so much better!
I drive 1 1/2 hours one way to get to him and his wonderful staff and it’s worth the drive!
I highly recommend this Vet Clinic!!❤️

Love Doctor Fitzsimmons. He takes care of both of our dogs. I was really nervous about taking one of my dogs to the vet because he gets so nervous when he goes. Dr. Fitzsimmons handled bullet like a charm. I recently had to take him in for some dental work and he did so well and did not give them any issues. I'm so thankful I found Dr. Fitzsimmons and his staff. I would recommend all of my family and friends 2 take their animals to Dr. Fitzsimmons. Thank you to all the staff for taking such great care of both of our fur babies❤

This is Tank. He started moping around in July. Over the month, he got worse, and in august we took him to the vet. They kept him overnight and said his WBC was at 0. The next day he was a bit perkier after… fluids and IV antibiotics and they sent him home.
For the next 2 weeks, he barely ate and got weaker and weaker despite being on antibiotics. On august 21, we took him to another vet for a 2nd opinion, thinking we were going to have to put him down. He’d developed masses all over his body and mouth and had to be carried everywhere because he couldn’t walk. He was literally

Dr. Martinez as always is nothing but a joy to deal with. I wouldn't trust my animals with anyone other than him. He listens, is honest and straightforward, but always understanding of your concerns. He's also gentle with how he handles animals, and I respect him greatly. He is top notch for sure. Staff is also great, but this was just my first experience with them vs. many experiences with Dr. Martinez.

The entire staff is wonderful. Thank you to Dr. Martinez for taking care of Chewy the last two years. Letting him go was not easy but being able to hold him the through the process was comforting. Dr. Martinez… helped to assure me the decision was fair for Chewy. I'm only sorry there was nothing more we could do besides letting him go. All staff members that day were so sweet, polite, caring and understanding. Even with all the COVID precautions, I was able to spend precious last moments with him. Chewy can now once again run like the wind. Rest well my baby.
