Chromatic Technologies
Photochromics are color changing inks that activate when exposed to sunlight. This technology is great for creating theater-in-the-hand experiences for consumers. Sunlight-activated features are one way your brand can own the summer or outdoor-usage occasions. Photochromic inks are also great for creating content and stories for Millennials to share on social media.

Thermochromics change colors as they cool. 40% of consumers complain about being served a beverage that's too warm. Thermochromic technology is great for ensuring an ice-cold beverage experience for each consumer. Reveal technology hides the message when a product is warm or cold: it's only after the chilled beverage is consumed that the message or code is revealed.

CTI is not just an ink company, but an innovation engine that help brands grow by improving lives through chemistry that alerts, protects and surprises. CTI's technology enables every brand to design a consumer experience that's anchored in a brand's positioning. CTI technology can be stretched across all packaging formats - cans, plastic, shrink, paper, film etc.
Lyle Small, a Cornell University chemistry student, founded Chromatic Technologies, Inc. (CTI) in his dorm room in 1993, building ink molecules, trying to find different stimuli to turn inks "on and off" - also known as "smart inks." Known as an entrepreneurial P&L growth driver who shapes strategy and aligns collective team strengths vertically and cross-functionally to ignite profitable commercial outcomes.
Walk outside into the sunlight and watch packaging printed with CTI photochromic technology burst into color. What seems like magic is, in reality, sophisticated chemistry. Here's how it works: When sunlight or UV light containing 365-nanometer wavelengths stimulates sunlight activated inks on printed materials, photochromic dye molecules rotate to change from colorless to color almost instantly.
Adding fun and mystery to Halloween, snack foods, beverages, and other consumer packaged goods (CPG) campaigns, this printed ink glows green after being exposed to blacklight or UVA light. The heavier the ink coat weight, and the longer and stronger the charging, the brighter and longer-lasting glow.
With more and more products being orders online and delivered to doorsteps, criminals find new methods for fraud and theft. Whether it's detecting clever counterfeits or thwarting the opening of packages to steal contents, CTI has developed several technologies designed to authenticate products or show tampering has occurred.
