Dermer received his degree in economics from Stanford University in 1985. He returned to Santa Clara University where he obtained his Juris Doctorate in 2005 and became licensed to practice law that same year.

Anyone complaining about the Dermer Law Firm on this site is either fake or an unreasonable person. Joe is so super smart at his practice that it's hard to imagine people not being grateful. We've had Joe handling our personal and business taxes for a few years now. Nothing but professional and helpful. Others on staff, Ken and Liz in particular, are also very helpful in scheduling, providing documents, and the general info flow. Always provides excellent legal and accounting advice and support. Joe Dermer is a great lawyer with a heart of gold. My husband and I took a young Chinese refugee into our family and needed to establish guardianship. Joe took on the case on a pro bono basis, as a way to give back to the community. He and his team (Martha Honda and Maggie LaBranch) handled the guardianship proceedings with complete professionalism and persistence, which was necessary as there was a change of judge mid-stream. I had very unpleasant experience with this law firm. Joe and the assistant don't know how to communicate with customer, don't even mention they will try to understand and satisfy customer need. They neglected and delayed my document that need to sent to the court last year. Also being bossy and bully when I repeatedly let them know what I exactly want them to do. Joe and the assistant liked to throw you in the air and turned their back on you to make you feel like you were not existed when you identify their negligence. They love your big money, but their efforts is way less than

I can't believe that I went there for a consultation and he charged me $350 without letting me know up front and then claimed I "forgot"! His office never once mentioned fees when I called to schedule my appointment. He was taking calls during my very expensive time with him. The place was a wreck and he assumed I knew little or nothing about my situation so it was not only a waste of time, but also money. I needed tax advice since I am just starting up a company and also wanted to know about quarterly filings, and had some questions I needed answered, but he was of no use whatsoever
