Meline Engineering
Meline Engineering specializes in sustainable, energy-efficient mechanical systems for commercial, government, public and residential buildings. We have particular expertise in geothermal heat pump, solar thermal and energy recovery systems. Since 1995, we have designed geothermal and sustainable energy systems for more than 75 public buildings and 150 residences.

Our projects have included correctional facilities, office buildings, schools and both large and small custom homes. Industry leaders have recognized past and continuing contributions by Meline Engineering to the geothermal heat pump industry. Participation on technical committees, strategic planning, and the development of codes and standards are all areas of current involvement.
Services
Detention facilities present so many design challenges (especially in the area of security), that achieving LEED certification has rarely been considered. Now that paradigm is changing. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working to incorporate more energy-efficient technology in their facilities, including geothermal heat pumps.
The ground heat exchanger is connected to a central plant system in a Joint Use Facility, which in turn provides hot and chilled water for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems in the Joint Use Facility and in three additional buildings at City College of San Francisco.

Meline Engineering conducted a third party review of the construction documents and provided input to the engineer of record and the general contractor for best practices associated with the ground heat exchanger.
A new building was constructed at the SCWA waste water treatment plant in Santa Rosa in support of their fleet and service operations. Due to the proximity of the retention pond of treated waste water, a plan was devised to take advantage of this feature as a heat exchange medium. Because the level of the water in the retention pond fluctuates, a minimum depth of 4 feet was established for effective heat transfer.
Meline Engineering provided an engineered design for a phased Geothermal Ground Loop System of which Phase I will be connected to the new Academic Core Buildings and Central Utilities Plant (CUP) in the summer of 2018. The CUP is designed for a nominal 600-ton chiller/heat pump load. Phase I provides 360 tons of cooling and heating for the Academic Core which will be the first group of buildings to be connected to the CUP.
Meline Engineering was hired to provide the District with an engineered plan to repair their Geothermal Loop Field which had begun leaking at the Newark Campus. System performance and the resulting investigation revealed that the underground connections of the 'geo coils' to the buried vaults were the points of failure.
