Poor business ethics. My son is in the military, signed up to work out, but with Covid and deployment was only able to work out a few months because they were restricted to the base. They would not allow him to stop his membership, and sent him to a collection agency.. even when he was deployed, knowing he would not be able to be there for the next two years. That is unethical. The Arena Takes advantage of the young men, knowing they will only able to be there a short time by making them sign 2 year contracts. I am sure this company received grant help from the government for Covid on top of collecting

Like Sherlock Holmes? More like CIA Pentagon. I call in their office about the price, and some guy on the phone says "Boss sways I cannot welease prices." I said, just a quick quote. Response, "Sowwy, Boss says I cannot tell pricey". The writer for Arena is what we call a Computer Geekathon, or Keyboard warrior, he wrote a 10 paragraph response likes he's in the 5th round of boxing. Do you think real boxing owners business men do this or have time? Sometimes they hire teenagers or interns to handle their social media division. He's prob not a boxer in real life, because

Best wrestling gym in San Diego. I absolutely love everything about this gym, from the huge amount of classes to their incredibly fair pricing. Now they added a 2nd wrestling coach to their program, both recent graduates of D1 wrestling programs. And they're also doubling the size of their wrestling room, with the equivalent of 2 collegiate mats. Can't ask for much more.

Take the rating with a grain of salt, as I don’t know what the training is like. Visiting from out of town, stopped by to see if I could get some training in, but was told they are not accepting any drop-ins or guests *even with proof of vaccination or a negative test result*. For some reason, they are accepting new students who will sign longer contracts, which does not make much sense to me, if the goal is infection control. Either way, it would’ve been helpful to post that warning prominently on the website.
From what I could tell, the facility is spacious and looks quite nice.

Website says
“First 30 Days Free”
I showed up expecting to jump in a class but after the tour they show me the pricing and there’s an awkward pause.
I ask if I can’t jump in the Muay Thai class and get a “No”
Apparently the First 30 Days is after you SIGN UP AND PAY $100-150 for the membership/initiation fee.
So I wasted my time going there with no class or anything. Lol.
The 30 days free after you sign up was not mentioned on the website AT ALL. Word for word it says “Get your first 30 days free, Just fill out the form below”
Nothing about a membership fee or initiation

I'm getting ready to come back to SD from overseas, and this update is long overdue.
The ABC Financial did cancel my membership, after frustrating, annoying, long, and arduous process, with absurd steps and fees. It's just way too much hassle. I believe their payment system has been updated, which now you can do online.
Besides my criticism of their payment system, my previous review of The Arena still stands.
The gym itself, from the owner, staff, to the students, it's a tight knit group and I loved every class. You can't beat the price for the quality of training

I came to the arena last year to learn jujitsu and Muay Thai. My first experience since day one was amazing. The people, instructors, and staff were fantastic. I Unfortunately had to leave for personal reasons but I plan to return July if possible. I would recommend this spot for anyone looking to get into MMA, boxing, or just get fit.

If you are looking for a great workout and an even better fitness coach, look no further! I was recovering from my second ACL surgery, and Coach Jason gave me the confidence and customized workouts to help me achieve my fitness goals. I have not felt this great or strong in years!!! Coach Jason is excellent, and he creates unique, effective workouts for everyone.

I was very picky about where I wanted to train and spend my money, so I did some research. The Arena has the best schedule. If I can't make my regular class for whatever reason, I don't stress out because I know that I will be able to make it to another class later in the day. The quality of instructors is amazing. Each one there is at the top of their sport. Lastly, the atmosphere is inviting, and everyone there wants you to succeed. It truly is a team. I highly recommend this gym.

I recently visited the facility and was greeted kindly. After speaking to who I assume was the owner/manager, everything was taken care of. I was told that the charges would be taken away and that my agreement would be cancelled. Again I did complete my two year agreement and just wanted out. The only real hiccup that I experienced was the ability to make solid contact. But after speaking with personally it was fine.

I started my free trial this January and overall this is the best decision I've made this year! The gym is massive and the staff continue to integrate better equipment to make the experience better! The coaches are super friendly, down to earth people and teach you the fundamentals of martial arts very well. I love this gym! I feel welcomed and humbled to train here and anyone who's interested in learning a martial art, this is the place to do it!

DON'T Listen to the 1 star reviews about the cancellation process! I signed up for a 2 year contract in November 2017. Paid my $99 per month and 99$ annual club fee on January 16th every year. My contract rolled over to a month to month basis at $99 per month. I called on December 19th 2019 and after about 20 Minutes I was able to schedule my final payment and be done. The staff was always very very helpful and very very patient with everyone. They were also very helpful when giving me the information needed to cancel my membership. It was super easy and everyone is fantastic. Great instructors

What an awesome journey it is to train at The Arena. First, of all the sports combat gyms around town, hands down I chose this gym. Why? The coaches. They know what the hell they are talking about. They lead by example. Check their fight histories. They will help you understand each drill, combo, technique, and fundamentals. You get out what you put in of course, don't get me wrong. You can't just attend one day and take a month off (I've been guilty of that due to work and life... lol) but they are always there to help you excel.

If you truly want to learn technical fighting styles, this is the place. Coach Chuck and Kru Mark will take a microscope to your progress and you will always be aware of where you are and what you need to work through next to improve. If you're looking for some sort of cardio Billy Blanks style Tae Bo nonsense, you're going to have a bad time here lol You WILL get a cardio workout, but you will also definitely get your thighs chopped and your head rocked back a few times. My experience here is only with the Muay Thai classes, but if I had more free time I would absolutely spend 2-3 hours

It's my place for therapy! A place for personal growth! I've learned so much, they offer so many different disciplines, so they have something for almost anyone and everyone. They also offer strength and conditioning so you won't even need another gym for. It's super affordable and with so much to offer you really can't beat it. Check it out for yourself though.

BEWARE of the 2 year contract! 1 Star is directly for the contract & associated billing company: ABC Financial Services, LLC. Zero accountability here. Arena blames ABC and ABC blames Arena and both act like their hands are tied and nothing can be done.
They make you jump through the most unreasonable hoops just to avoid auto-renewal after 2 years.
"Send a 30-day notice via certified mail only" etc.
You can pay online but you cannot cancel or stop auto-renewals online, only through hard copy mail. Incredibly frustrating process where they've made it as difficult as possible

I am very happy that I joined The Arena last September (2018). Sure, it doesn't smell so pretty ...there is grunting, groaning, sweat on the ground (ugh). But there is true instruction, learning and growing on every level that is happening everyday. What they invest in is the coaches, students, fighters and the staff. Not the fluff.
The gym is wonderfully diverse with many different cultures and backgrounds. You will immediately see that when you walk in. So you will never feel like you are "different" or that others will not accept you. You will also need to make the effort to join in. No hand

This gym is amazing if you plan on competing in any combat sport, or if you're looking for real self-defense ability. The instruction for each discipline is great. Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, muay thai/kickboxing, judo, mma, etc. They probably have the most available classes w/the largest variety of combat sports of any gym in San Diego. The instruction is all quality too. Its a fighters gym, so there's plenty of guys there who will test you & help you get better as you're learning as well.
Many other gyms with cardio kickboxing type programs may have legit technical classes

Cowards - wont tell you the price rate, until they SEE you first; then throw price at you whatever they wants.
This is not cool for these who try to budget when on fixed income or live paycheck to paycheck.
Them: "That means you not serious, this is not cheap".
All these reviews below seems kissing their A$$.
Bad vibes.

I've started training at this gym about 2.5 months ago and I love it! They have classes available all day, which is rare and accommodating. I've learned so much more than I've been able to learn at other places. The instructors are great! They help beginners but expect you to put your part in. It's combat training so it should be this way. If there is leeway people don't get ahead so I really like this.
Its pretty big and clean. They have showers to use after your done training which is a plus.
