Dead Bear is my absolute favorite restaurant in the Grayling area. Everytime we go up north we stop and get food. Excellent staff, excellent food. Sometimes the wait can be a little long, but the food and environment are well worth the wait.

I'd like to give 2.5 but I'll round up instead of down.
Beer wasn't very good. I could not taste any peanut butter in the peanut butter porter. Might as well drive nearby to Rolling Oak and have theirs instead.
Service was not great. I felt I was inconveniencing the server by being there. Maybe she was having a bad day maybe she feels over worked, I don't know but it would have been nice to be asked if I wanted water when my beer was gone before the food came. I would have asked for it but after dropping off the food she only came back to give me the tab when I was done. No point in being more

We gave them another try, after a bad experience the last time. The service was below average, the food lacks seasoning for the most part
The pulled pork on the Porkapocolyse sandwich was very dry and tasted like wet cardboard. The homemade bbq taste more like A1 steak sauce than BBQ sauce. The bacon on both my wife's burger and my sandwich were so burnt that it was inedible. The onion rings and breaded mushrooms were also way overcooked. We did not try any of the craft beer. Perhaps with enough alcohol someone might think this food is acceptable.

A picture is worth a thousand words. On a slow night, after any possible food rush, this is the "medium" burger that I was served. Service was subpar as well.

The fries and fried mushrooms were great, and our server was also great. The entrees, however, were not good. Chicken tenders weren’t fried enough (the inside of the batter wasn’t fully cooked), the burger and chicken smelled and tasted like dirty grill (and the burger had a build-up of blackened grease from the grill), and the Thai salad was basically a huge plate of iceberg lettuce (not romaine like the menu stated with chicken and oranges and 1/2 cup of noodles. Basically 3 out of 4 meals weren’t eaten. Won’t be coming back.

Well I know you are short staffed but I was a party of one. You told me 10 minutes. I waited over 30 minutes no text. So I went elsewhere.

Good food. Nice place, nice staff. Beer is okay, they do have a number of other Michigan taps.

Food was amazing, but definitely upgrade to fries as the chips were sort of bland. Drink selection was great and their own brews were tasty. They even have a small arcade area and an arm wrestling table where you can compete with a staff member to win 10% off of in store merchandise.

Dead Bear was another stop on brew trail. What an awesome brewery! Being Memorial weekend, it was busy. I loved the theme and the decor of this brewery. We had some fun taking pictures and arm wrestling! That's right, an authentic arm wrestling table. I could see the fear in his eyes when I challenged him to a match. Haha Let's just say, he wouldn't let me beat him! We ordered a few beers, which we really enjoyed, grabbed a few stickers and of course our tags! This brewery is very family oriented so kids are certainly welcome.

The staff are super nice. They are hard working especially being short staff. The Reuben egg rolls are delish! Highly recommend this place. Please be patient because they are short staff

Dead Bear Brewing recently added a 3% surcharge to all credit card payments. They describe it as a convenience fee on the bill, but they are not displaying a notice of the surcharge anywhere else. It's too bad. They have good food and their beers are pretty good, but I tend to avoid places that add surcharges for paying with a credit card.

If you are not very hungry and have lots and lots of time to sit and wait for your (just ok) food then this place is for you! My daughter really liked the Ruben egg roll appetizer, which came about 20 minutes after we ordered it. Don't even ask how long it took us to get our entrees, but let's just say our server wasn't too concerned about our experience there. Also, it wasn't very busy, otherwise I would be more forgiving in my review.

Okay

I want to start by saying the waitress was amazing! Her name was Heather. But when we arrived it was not at all busy. It's was during a shift change but still we were not addressed for at least 25 minutes after being seated. We almost left and a waitress came over to us. She wasn't even in our area but helped us anyway. Once ordered it took over 20 minutes or so to get our order. My Ruben was super soggy and the onion rings were so undercooked that there was powder exploding out of the onion ring when I took a bite. Wish I would have taken a photo. Anyway they refunded us for my

Interior is amazing. "Outdoor" dining area is comfy and warm with garage doors propped 1/3 open to provide multiple air changes. Our meal consisted of Fried pickle appetizer ( meal by itself) Reuben and crispy chicken sandwich. The Reuben was stacked well and the side of onion rings was more than I could eat. My partners chicken sandwich was a little over cooked but they got slammed right after we ordered, and with likely one person in the kitchen we can forgive this.
My only complaint is the paper used in the serving basket causes the bread on the bottom side to go soggy quickly. The kitchen

The brews were underdeveloped. Great write ups but lackluster flavor. Food was forgettable. Burgers over done and runny Mac and cheese. The spicy chicken salad needs help. The chicken and dressing had good flavors but the noodles and construction of the dish needed help.

I've been waiting to write this review for a few weeks now. I don't think the rueben has left my mind since I had it!

My boyfriend and I were coming home from Mackinac Island and wanted to get dinner on the road. Not feeling fast food anymore, he told me he wanted a reuben. That sounded amazing to me too!

A quick Yelp search led me to Dead Bear Brewing and ten minutes later we were in the car ordering take out. We were going to eat it at our cottage, which was about a half hour away.

Ordering was easy and our food came out quick and hot! The rueben, filled with cheese and 1000 Island

Nice brewery with several own and guest brews. We had two different kinds of Porters, a vanilla and a bacon one; both of which were great. We also ordered a sandwich which was very tasty and nicely presented. Furthermore they have cool decoration, very cabin looking with bear skins and game trophies, etc. I think there is room for improvement in terms of giving it yet a more unique look and feel, get rid of the arcade section that has absolutely nothing to do with the overall style of the brewery.

More 3 1/2. Staff very friendly and efficient, we had their house amber ale and that was delicious. Reuben appetizer was fabulous and it went downhill from there. Cod was more like fish finger size.. pic w/fry to show. They were served in a basket and because they broke easily and were so greasy it made the basket lining rip to try and eat them with a fork. Hubby had a burger and it was over- cooked and the house made chips were burnt. The fries were ok though...

First, all recommended COVID precautions are being followed, so that was a big round of applause! We were there for lunch, on our way to the wineries in Traverse City, so we didn't order any of the brews. Hubby ordered the Reuben and was really happy with that - but the star of his order was the onion rings! These were probably the best we've had in a long time.., very good. I had the hamburger with homemade chips - this was an excellent typical bar burger. Stop in, you won't be disappointed !

How can you NOT love a brewery that also has cocktails available!? After my reunion on a very snowy day, I decided to stop in for lunch. BAM! French onion soup. The cheesy goodness hit the spot. I also tried a super tasty Bloody Mary made to perfection, and a very large Spicy Thai chicken salad. The staff was super nice, it was a slow Sunday in a cool place. I love the decor and all the Bear writings all over. My favorite saying was on the wall... Free beer tomorrow!

I can't comment on the food, but the beer here is really not that good. Of the beers we tried, they weren't true to the style they were meant to reflect. Many of the beers (which I have to assume were maybe the better/more popular options) were tapped, so we couldn't try those.
On the night we went there was live music, which made for a really great atmosphere on the patio. The side panels were open so we got to enjoy the cool night air. We would come back for atmosphere alone, but next time I think we will sick to some of the domestic beers.

Update: they were open on the day of super bowl. Food and drinks were just as awesome as before. However, the brisket sandwich needed a little more sauce.
Not a lot of choice on beers. Food was great, staff was friendly. If you’re a person of color people will stare at you here.

Aporkalypse for the win!!!

Aporkalypse burger: beef patty, bacon, pulled pork, ham, and cheddar cheese!!
Burger was great, only complaint was our entire table ordered "medium" burgers and we all received "well done". Would come back the next time I'm in town.
