At Blue Iris the core of our business is renovating older yards that have gotten out of control. We will come in and tame anything from small areas that has slipped out of control to a complete yard overhaul. We design with an emphasis on creating comfortable flow for you and your family while solving problems such as drainage issues.
Plantings are at the heart of what makes a yard beautiful and trees and bushes are the architecture structure of a beautiful garden. We go into great detail to design your plantings with different heights, forms, textures, colors and bloom times so that your yard looks beautiful year round. Our designer knows the cultural requirements of 390 different trees and bushes both native and ornamental, so he can find a plant to fit your site's needs.
Rain gardens are a great way to turn your drainage problems into beautiful gardens. A rain garden is a garden that has been excavated and refilled with a specially mixed soil to speed water absorption. Plants are selected for their ability to be submerged in water or grow in dry soils. These plants typically have deep root systems that further speed water absorption.

To make a retaining wall last, we do an analysis of the soil type, water flows and slope of the terrain to determine the proper depth of the base, and the thickness of the gravel backing behind the wall.If the wall is over three feet in height and it is determined to have significant pressures behind it we will place Geo Grid layers into the gravel backing to act a drag anchors behind the wall.

We recently bought a new house and entrusted a number of projects to Taylor and his team at Blue Iris. Taylor was fantastic to work with, reasonable, responsive, and the work was top notch. He took care of grading on the side of our house to prevent basement flooding, installed a trench drain at the end of our driveway, and completely reinvented our backyard with a beautiful brick patio that replaced an overgrown mess. I highly recommend them especially after working with other groups.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Charged $600 for the drawing, which I expected and he was upfront about. He drafted the plan over the winter, indicating he would contact us in the early spring (March-April) to meet, go over the plan and schedule the work. Come end of spring (end of May), we did not hear from him, so decided to call him instead to go over and schedule. We signed the contract for a portion of the work (front and side yard) and he indicated we would need to put nearly $4,000 as a down payment for the work. At the time, he said we would be schedule for the work to start 2-3 weeks

Blue Iris did a wonderful job transforming our small square patch of front lawn into an interesting, varied garden. Taylor's design took both of our preferences re: types of plants and overall 'look' of the space into consideration-- met our preferences and also went way beyond our imaginings and expectations.
