J. Carter's Tavern Grill

Needed a staff that knows how to make a drink and food. Was good last time we visited this time not so much. Good intentions and smiles but no ability to deliver a margarita I thought a book. Owner dropped the ball when he left his business to good intentioned under trained staff

My wife and I used to love coming here The food was always great ,good drinks, wonderful staff.
After our last two visits ,we gave it a second chance we will never come back.
Our young server was very sweet but clueless.Her appearance was poor ,looked like she just got out of bed.
I have to say my meal was tasty ,the main potion was very small, one piece of liver about the size of a small slice of bread and half as thick.My wife's burger was so so.
At this rate this place will never make it.

I've always liked this place. But today they had one girl working the bar and dining room and couldn't do it all. Owner should have more than one employee on a Saturday.

I've been here a few times prior to new ownership. Wasn't the best place, food was pretty bad but service was good.
I've visited this place last night. Menu was limited, I went on the website it had a full menu, not when you are there. Wings are the worst. Don't call them Buffalo wings because they are NOT even close. The mini corn dogs, nasty!
Service was extremely slow, the place wasn't even busy, for obvious reasons.
It seems like they have had that new ownership and management sign has out for for over a year. This place is even worse than it was before.

The service was non-existent but it was not the only service person's fault. The place was somewhat busy-I arrived at 6:30pm and was not recognized for about 20 minutes. When the sole server (also acting as a bartender) came I ordered a beer and the meatloaf-surprise no meatloaf. Had a patty melt and another beer. Left at 7:45 after waiting for my check for another 10 minutes or so. I get the issue of not enough help with COVID but it seems that three either owners, managers or staff on duty where celebrating some type of birthday, singing karaoke, etc. They only started working around 7:30pm

The food tonight was terrible. Service was slow (which I understand with being understaffed). But I ordered a pork chop that was supposed to come with vegetables and fried potatoes. The meat was a pitiful portion. No vegetables and I wound up with fries AND fried potatoes. I asked for vegetables and they never came. But sadly I think I lucked out. They were merely canned green beans with garlic mixed in. What happened to this place?

I used to frequent here all of the time weekly either for happy hour with a girlfriend or dinner with the family. Or for late night live music. Im sure New ownership is doing their best but I was so unimpressed with yesterday's visit. The restaurant didn't seem clean. When you walked in there was zero energy. Nobody welcomed us or said hello. Poor young girl serving us Didn't seem to know much of anything and the service was super slow. Really slow. No one was in a rush. Not even to get you a drink! We were only handed a lunch menu which was below average and typical bar food.

I went there on Dec 22nd @6pm with some friends for karaoke and dinner. My burger was very disappointing. I ordered the mushroom and cheese burger medium rare. I waited 45 minutes and asked our server if my food was ready yet, they promptly brought it to me, it was barely warm and way overdone. It obviously had been sitting for about 20 minutes. They weren't busy, just flat out forgot about my food, but managed to bring everyone else's. I was told that one of the owners was doing the cooking because the cook wasn't there. At noon, on a game day Sunday, the place was completely empty...with the exception of two people sitting at the bar. TWO!

Everything was grody...all the way to the unseasoned fries.

The service was virtually - non existent.
We sat ourselves.
We flagged a server to come over to take our order.
Our food came.
We had to flag a server over to get the bill.
We left.

There was zero interaction unless we initiated it which was odd - given we were 2 of only 4 customers in the entire place.

We both felt sick after leaving.

Well , super disappointed tonight. After all the hype of new owners and new menu ( witch there was nothing wrong with the old menu ) we walked in to an empty restaurant , bartender was waiting tables snd mixed our drink . Oooo where to start. They changed their entire menu which is fine but removed apps. We asked and they had some off menu items (they should stay that way). They were basically grocery store frozen jalapeño poppers served with... marinara sauce. Our drinks surprisingly were the worst part. What happened to J. Carter's. This place was our favorite hidden gem. We raved about Carter's to our friends, brought them in for dinner Thursday night and were totally humiliated. Went from being a classy, fun restaurant to a crappy diner. Everything has changed for the worst. The quality of the food was absolutely horrible. Everything was fatty, frozen and cheap. No more made from scratch deliciousness. We stopped in for dinner the other night. We didn't realize they were under a new ownership.

The menu is simplified. I got the fried chicken. It was excellent. The batter was crisp and light. The chicken was tender and juicy. It was accompanied with a baked potato, excellent meal.

The staff is still figuring things out, but very attentive and the service was excellent.

We wanted a beer, and the waitress was familiar with everything they had on tap.

We aren’t really ones to leave bad reviews. However we have attempted to eat at this restaurant twice. Both times we weren’t even able to eat. The first time we were standing at the front by the podium, employees kept walking by us, not saying anything, we tried to get their attention and no one stopped to help us. Went there last night and had reservations for 23 people. Found out that there under new ownership and that the menu has completely changed. No prime rib no French dip etc…. Didn’t even have a highchair for my grandson We all ended up leaving and going somewhere else.

Same atmosphere and before it was taken over. Friendly bar with hightop tables to enjoy bar t.vs or have a medium group fit comfortably. Family, friends, kids, middle age groups.

Me and my boyfriend went on a Tuesday night around 6:45, and it wasn't too busy and it was okay at first, the bartender seemed like the only one taking care of all the tables and the bar so this review has nothing to do with him, we know he was doing his best because it got busier after we arrived.

Cool little place. Atmosphere is nice, food isn't bad, good live music but they are woefully understaffed. Friday night, 3 servers no section organization, they were just all over the place. They were doing the best they could but management needs to get them help. It's took us 25 min to even be acknowledged after seating ourselves. Another 40 to get our first drinks and an extra 20 for our food to come.

We went when they'd been reopened for just two days. Everything's wasn't quite back in stock, but that will get fixed quickly. The food was great and the service was top-notch.

First time that I have ever been to this establishment was Friday October 29. Here are the pro’s and con’s of my experience.
Pro’s:
Food was absolutely amazing. Everything that I tried was perfect.
Live band was fun and great free entertainment.
Service was great, they were very busy on this night and the kitchen was cranking out the orders quickly.
Con’s:
Soon as I walked in there was an over powering smell. It bothered both my wife and I and smelled like a poorly maintained bathroom.
Even after being wiped down the table had that sticky dive bar feeling.

J Carter's has that old style tavern feel to it. It's something we used to call with much affection, a gin mill in the old days.

We were shopping in the area and started looking at nearby places to grab a lite HH snack. J Carter's has this beautiful mahogany bar with only a few TVs. So it's not really a sports bar, but they do have live music.

We tried the Spinach Artichoke appetizer, the Prime Rib French Dip and the Orange Peel Chicken. The food was great.

J Carter is a winner in our book and we'll be back.

J. Carter's is worth the visit if you're hungry for delicious food and tasty drinks. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, and the portions are large.
As with every hospitality business duringthis time of covid, they are struggling to keep staff on. With that said, they are a hard working, courteous, competent group of people who are still doing a great job, feeding and entertaining the public.

I had went to this place last week or (I know my post is late lol) and we had came here to eat and try something new... I had the Tavern Burger which was delicious and had a very great time there... The Space Dust IPA was a hit for me and the overall atmosphere was chill, relaxing, and fun. The games on the TV screens were great to look at and the customer service was great! I really had a great time here and if you're in the mood for a burger and beer, then this place I would recommend. Great job guys!

The hubby and I been coming here since they opened, we love the food, though the menu could use a update.

My rating is based, I guess, on business practices. We order take out regularly instead of dining in. Every time we pick up our food the bill total is different and isn't reflective of posted prices for their online menu. Last week we included chicken wings in our order, menu price $11.95 we were charged $16.75 ... Omg, for chicken wings! Price on side salads keep moving around, same with Tri- Tip sliders. This has been happening for awhile.

Great I love it here only down size is the food takes forever but once you take the first bite you'll forget all about it😍. This place is actually better than some of the top restaurants in the area. Must try ***** BREAD AND BUTTER IS THE BOMB HERE*****

This place is hip and trendy but the food is also great! They offer full bar and have live music on the weekend. Only downfall is they tend to take a long time to get your order out, so set aside 1-2 hours especially during lunch. Also the warm bread is the best served with sweet butter 😍.
