Services
Things to bring: We have yoga mats and blocks/blankets/props, but bring your own yoga mat if you prefer, and a water bottle. Wear comfortable workout/yoga clothes. Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. A good rule of thumb is to wait 2-3 hours after a meal, before practicing. If you must eat less than 2 hours before a class (to maintain blood sugar levels, etc.), a light natural snack is best.
Solveig Corbin, founder and director of Nokomis Yoga, began studying Svaroopa Yoga in 2005. Prior to that she studied Hatha Yoga for several years. I found that Svaroopa Yoga opened me up and gave me profound relief from my chronic back pain and muscle stiffness. I had never experienced anything like it.
This special class is a baby integrated postnatal yoga practice designed for babies and caregivers from 6 weeks to crawling. This sequenced program is designed to meet the developmental needs of babies nurturing and fostering rhythms for sleep, digestion and more. Although Yoga Bonding is perfect for dads and caregivers, there is special attention placed on the needs of moms in the postnatal period.
Embodyment Yoga Therapy, a therapeutic hands-on Svaroopa healing modality, facilitates the release of core muscle tension at the base of your spine. Tight muscles are painful muscles. As the tight muscles at the base of your spine are supported, your body is able to release long-held tension. This release work triggers a relaxation response from the core outward to other areas of your body.

I love this place . I have taken several classes and it's a nice quiet place and I never liked yoga to self conscious and I am not flexible but all the instructors are great and I feel comfortable doing what I can . My favorite classes are kundalini and saroopa .. but I hate to give away this hidden gem my secret getaway spot !

2015 update: attended Myra's vinyasa class tonight and it was AMAZING! Great instructors and very personalized service. They are extremely helpful and available to help you adapt the poses to your body and level of flexibility/strength/injuries etc. Highly recommend this neighborhood studio, much nicer then the overcrowded gym classes I have taken before.
2016 update: I just took Sarah's baby bonding class and it was fantastic. Personalized attention for you and your baby. Lots of attention paid to baby but also to mom and focusing on our recovering bits! Baby loved looking around and it was fun

I met Solveig at meetings of Friends of the Nokomis Community Library. Through the Friend's group I found out about her Nokomis Yoga Studio. I have been attending her Wednesday morning Restorative Yoga classes and have been greatly impressed with her individual attention to her students/clients during the small group classes. She incorporates adaptive props and methods to repair existing pain and damage and to prevent further injury. It is a calming and indeed restorative education in the practice of Yoga. I thoroughly enjoy my time spent there. I can feel the changes in my flexibility, my attention

I'm new to yoga despite my wife's many suggestions that I try it. I've been going Wednesday mornings to the restorative sessions and it has been wonderful.
My neck actually bends better, I can see over my shoulders. My back is more limber. I'm still a beginner, and as such I appreciate Solveig's attention and help in getting me situated properly in poses from time to time.
The personal touch adds a lot compared to the handful of times I used my wife's Yoga Videos.
Finally, I've got to say as the only male in the classes that I have been at, - it is a safe place for guys as well. :) And there

I'm still a big fan of Nokomis Yoga! It does wonders for my body!
I have become a big fan of the Svaroopa yoga, I admit I thought it was "different" (as a Minnesotan would say), but it is great. And yoga instead of coffee on Thursday afternoons, just wish I could get to it more.
There are so many different classes offered, something for everyone!

I'm not giving this place a fair shake. Because you should never, ever shake your baby, and I'm only here to review the mother and baby yoga class.
Mother and baby yoga consists basically of moms moving their babies gracefully and purposefully around their bodies while doing modified yoga poses. The class emphasizes following one's own energy levels and listening to one's baby; the teacher "invited" us to do a lot of basic elements of yoga (breathing or more advanced poses).
But here's the thing. It wasn't yoga. It was gentle baby swinging. And
