Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art that uses bare feet and hands as weapons. The literal translation is "the art of kicking and punching." Commonly called "Korean Karate, " Tae Kwon Do is similar to karate in many ways, including its use of colored belts, ranging from white through black, to show rank.

All Tae Kwon Do students learn punches, blocks and self-defense techniques, but kicks are the Tae Kwon Do trademark. Kicks are divided into two categories: linear kicks such as the front, side and back kicks; and circular kicks such as a wheel, crescent, or round kick. All of these techniques are used in sparring and can be delivered from either a stationary position or while jumping.

Kim's Tae Kwon Do Ranier Valley is located on Rainier Avenue South at Waldon Street on the former Chubby & Tubby site. It is a four block walk to the Mt. Baker Light Rail station that takes you downtown in 15 minutes. Nearby schools include John Muir Elementary, Kimball Elementary and Franklin High School.
The youngest age we currently accept is age 6. Classes are one hour and typically it is difficult for a child under the age of 6 to enjoy a one hour class format. Tae Kwon Do is one of the things that you will get what you put into it. That being said if a student is training regularly one can earn their black belt in about ~3 years.

Women’s self defense workshop on 1/26/19 was excellent! Learned many physical maneuvers that will help in case of attack. Will be attending the next class in April with my husband. Thank you Master Ahn and assistant trainers!

I attended a self defense class and found it to be extremely valuable & informative.
The class was full of important, useful & practical information. You'll learn which body parts are your best weapons, how to breakaway from grabs & outwit your assailant. There were "attackers" which enriched the class & were great to practice with despite their very real grasps! The instructor was very knowledgeable and explained how to integrate the various techniques into real life events.
I learned a LOT more than expected and feel much more confident that I know what do should such situations arise. This
