Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art which enhances not only the body but also the mind and soul. It is an ever adapting ground-based fighting style which relies on positioning and leverage to subdue one's opponent. Through Jiu Jitsu and the community created between its practitioners', we aim to improve self-confidence, health, and the ability to defend oneself providing access to effective self-defense training in the local Tierrasanta area.
Gracie Jiu Jitsu was developed from Judo's ground fighting techniques (Newaza). The techniques were adapted and refined, by the Gracie family to focus on balance and leverage, rather than strength and speed, to defeat a bigger and stronger opponent. Jiu Jitsu's most notable difference, compared to other martial arts, is taking one's opponent to the ground to restrict their movement and neutralize an attackers' explosive power.

Five Peaks Jiu Jitsu's name was inspired by The Five Peaks of Mission Trails which can be seen from the gym. The challenge that they present is a reminder of the progression that one goes through in Jiu Jitsu (White, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black belt). The journey to black belt is a seemingly impossible task but, like ascending The Peaks, it is attainable when taken one step at a time.
The Five Peaks Jiu Jitsu Kids Program is the perfect way to introduce your child to the art of Jiu Jitsu and Marital Arts in Tierrasanta. We integrate fundamental techniques with skill-building games and physical movements. Your child is set up for success with this enjoyable learning process. Five Peaks provides a safe and engaging environment for your child to learn and progress in Jiu Jitsu.

Going to your first Jiu Jitsu class can be pretty nerve-racking, but Mark, Carlos and the rest of the students made me feel super welcome from the jump. Despite only training for a few months since then, I feel vastly more capable and confident in my abilities; the attention to detail and instructor to student ratio makes for very quick progress.
Stoked to have started my Jiu Jitsu journey with Five Peaks. Only regret is that I wish I'd joined sooner!

I dropped in for open mat Saturday morning and was very pleased with the academy. Mark and Carlos are top notch instructors and cultivate a vibe of friendliness and hospitality.
There was a kids class after open mat that already had a good number of kids, even though they just opened not long ago.
The adults in open mat were very friendly and a joy to chat with between rounds.
I'll go back for a proper class. But I'm confident it'll be a good experience.

The instructors here are absolutely phenomenal. I've trained at 3 different gyms down in San Diego, and I can honestly say the atmosphere and instruction at Five Peaks is something you cannot find anywhere else.
Mark is an extremely technical jiu jitsu practitioner and an excellent teacher. He does a great job explaining the step by step approach of every technique he teaches. It's great to learn from him because he gives you a chance to learn from your mistakes, and has a lot of patience. He is the reason I decided to stick with Jiu Jitsu and didn't quit, and I will always be grateful that he

I have been attending class regularly for the past 2 weeks. Professors Mark and Carlos are extremely knowledgeable and teach from a very practical point of view with extremely humble and professional demeanor.
Excellent location, extremely clean environment, and digestible lessons for all ages, abilities, and body types!
Coming from a traditional martial arts background, I can tell you that this is NOT a "McDojo" or a "Black Belt Factory!" LEO, military, and family friendly with competitive pricing and exceptional value.

Great atmosphere for kids who want to get started in Jiu Jitsu. My 5 & 7 year old love coming in to Five Peaks, they have so much fun learning as they are also taught respect, discipline and some pretty cool self defense techniques. The instructors are great with the kids, they are very patient & friendly. This has been a great experience for them. Highly recommended!

The best jiu jitsu studio around! My husband and I just tried it out this morning. Women and family friendly. There is a laid back non pretentious vibe. Spacious and super clean! The instructors are amazing, super patient and will break down the techniques. Get a greak workout, learn self defense and have fun doing it! Highly recommend checking it out.
