Kids who train jiu jitsu learn how to handle themselves physically and how to avoid fighting off the mats. Our kids classes feature plenty of games and drills to help develop good bodily awarness and control. The objective for Little Eaglets (4-6 y.o.) is fun. Our instructors have plenty of games, coordination drills and grappling basics to keep the kids focused, engaged and happy.
Keenan Cornelius is Legion's founder and Head Instructor. He is known for developing several prominent jiu jitsu techiques and for his teaching prowess in general. Come meet him! Andris Brunovskis earned his nickname "The Latvian Sniper" as a fierce competitor. At Legion he's crucial to several of our programs, but he shines as our Beginner Program director.
If possible, please try to arrive 15 minutes early so that you can meet the staff and instructor, sign a waiver, and become orientated with our space. As far as footwear goes bringing some flip flops/ sandals is a good idea. No shoes are permitted on the mats. That's why walking up to the mats with flip-flops is a great idea for a seamless transition.
Thinking about visiting San Diego and Legion AJJ? We've compiled a lot of helpful information, plus our recommendations below. Public transport in SoCal exists, for example, there are buses servicing Miramar Road where Legion HQ is located. However, it is notoriously bad and used by few. If you are planning on staying in the area for a week or longer, we recommend renting a car.

The kids program is top tier. All their coaches are awesome and my son is always eager to go, especially for “Friday Fun Day”. The facility itself is huge and really clean, they even have a fully equipped gym area for members to use free of charge. We’ve made tons of friends here- my son with the other students, and myself with the other parents. It really feels like a little community and we love it.

Went to their open mat, everyone was super friendly, no egos, and the mats were spacious and clean. The boss even gave me one of his sparkling waters when they were out of waters to purchase which I really appreciated after a few rounds. If I didn’t have a bjj gym I wouldn’t mind training here daily.

While I don't normally train here locally, I love to make an effort to drop in whenever I am in town to get some good rolls in. The open mat is one of the best in the area due to the location to many neighboring schools and affiliations so you're always guaranteed good rolls and a variety of styles and techniques. Best of all there are no politics and everyone is welcome to come train which is one of the best things here. Everyone is here to learn and have fun. The classes I have dropped in for have been great too. The instruction is very detailed and precise no matter who teaches and plenty of

Simply outstanding! Legion has crafted a truly unique brand of jiu jitsu. The instructors were fantastic at explaining their technique as well as answering all student questions. It's also very spacious and clean. I also appreciated how comfortable the rest of the facilities were.
This gym has re-ignited my passion for the art form after 5 years of not training. If you're considering starting jiu jitsu for the first time or starting again after a layoff, this gym would be my first recommendation!

First jiujitsu gym I’ve tried out but I’m very satisfied with the experience. Andris Brunovskis’s 7:30 beginner gi class is very well ran and there is a lot of mat space given the large class size. He’s incredibly charismatic, knowledgeable, and teaches in a very easy to follow along manner. The other coaching staff are all very friendly and helpful also. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to get into this tough but rewarding sport.

Moved from Miami to San Diego and checked out a few jiu jitsu schools before choosing Legion. It’s the best one in San Diego. The teaching is the best I’ve ever come across and all the coaches are personable and down to earth. Each one came to introduce themselves. The culture is amazing with everyone wanting to get better together. I don’t see myself training anywhere else ever again.

Moved to SD at the beginning of 2021 after not really training in 2020. The gym helped me get back into a healthy routine of getting out the house and training. They offer classes everyday of the week; practically all day, and the instruction is always top notch. Always useful techniques that almost feel personalized to fix the holes in my game. Classes don't waste time with things like running laps. Just focused training and drilling with intention. No egos or characters or cliques. Really appreciate the class format here. For me, the location in Miramar is great. I'm able to catch the morning

If you are serious about your Jiu Jitsu progression this is probably the best environment you will find in the area. The instructors are all very talented in both Jiu Jitsu and in coaching to all levels. The majority of the members are respectful and make wonderful training partners. The space is very well maintained and provides for a clean and safe environment to train in. I have seen more progress here than at any other gym.

Legion AJJ is about as high quality as high quality gets when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu academies. The facility itself is huge and the mat space is likely the largest you've ever seen. The academy is always very clean. The instructors take great care in teaching the techniques is a technical and step-by-step way. The 6pm class is full of high-level competitive athletes who will push you, and the 7:30 beginner class is full of white belts (I am particularly impressed with the amount of attendees). The people are friendly. The music is always good too. If you’re looking for the right place to start
