In 1846, 18 years before the Civil War, General William Callahan, prominent broom manufacturer built an imposing brick residence for his family at what is now 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg. In 1928 according to an article appearing in the Daily Note Newspaper it was turned into a four-unit apartment by the Graff family.
Our staff is dedicated to providing families with compassion and guidance as they cope with a loss. Our goal is to provide you with a unique and dignified way to honor the memory of your loved one. The basic Military Funeral Honors (MFH) ceremony consists of the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veterans' family and the playing of Taps. The ceremony is performed by a funeral honors detail consisting of at least two members of the Armed Forces. The Funeral Honors rendered to you or your veteran will be determined by the status of the veteran.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a Government headstone or marker for the unmarked grave of any deceased eligible veteran in any cemetery around the world, regardless of their date of death. When the grave is already marked, applicants will have the option to apply for either a traditional headstone or marker, or a new device (available spring 2009).
A United States flag is provided, at no cost, to drape the casket or accompany the urn of a deceased veteran who served honorably in the U. S. Armed Forces. It is furnished to honor the memory of a veteran's military service to his or her country. Generally, the flag is given to the next-of-kin, as a keepsake, after its use during the funeral service.

I really enjoy the funeral home as my whole family has been viewed here and people are great here. But, I do not agree with the whole "surveillance" cameras near or in viewing area for that is privacy for people to grieve and talk. Those are not a necessity in that area and many found it odd at the viewing. Put in places like outside and main lobby area (main doors).

I was very pleased with the way things were handle at Salandra Funeral Home when my husband passed. My husband was sick for about ten years and looked really bad when he passed. When I walked into the funeral home and saw my husband I broke down and cried because he looked 20 years younger and looked like he was never sick. I was happy I chose Salandra's for the services.

Going to Joseph Salandra following the passing of my husband was truly a great decision. Joseph was kind and compassionate. He gave me the space to decide on my own or interject opinions when I was stumped. It is not easy making funeral decisions. We were at the start of the pandemic and I respect that Joseph made sure we didn't over spend on things we did not need since our funeral was smaller. I am 100% pleased with the level of service and the care received from Salandra Funeral Services!
