Ki-Aikido, "the way of harmony with Ki", is a non-violent martial art. It uses the self-defense arts as a way to learn peaceful coexistence within ourselves and with others. Central to this goal are the principles of mind-body coordination (or integration). These underlie our ability to direct Ki (universal energy) in a positive and productive manner.
In our adult program, we cover: Aikido arts and exercises; taigi; Ki development; meditation; and annual cold water training. Aikido is a defensive art, relying almost completely on throws. The goal of Aikido is to end conflicts peacefully but effectively, turning the aggressor's energy to a safe direction.
We accept children from the age of 5. Younger children start in the beginner's classes, and move to more advanced classes as they are able. Older beginners often start in the intermediate class, reflecting their higher level of focus and physical development. High school students may also join the adult program directly.
You can try out a class without cost or commitment. Please come 15 minutes before the beginning of class to speak to the instructor and sign paperwork. Beginning kids can start at the 6PM Tuesday or 9AM Saturday class. We find it particularly important for kids to try a class or two before committing, to make sure Aikido is a good fit for them.
The instructors at the Seattle Ki Society are all highly-trained, experienced, and friendly people, who have a sincere and genuine interest in teaching and sharing their knowledge. Several have received awards and honors at the competition at the Headquarters dojo in Japan, and all are available to answer any questions you may have about aikido or our school.

My son has started Aikido here about two months ago. He loves it, and I love watching him grow with it, already developing big new skills. The two sensais teaching kids are very gentle and powerful at the same time. I am going to try the adult class because of what I have seen and the people I have been meeting through the Society.
