Welcome to the website of the American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB), the organization of state boards that regulate the practice of counseling. Founded in 1985, AASCB is the resource for information about counselor licensing and regulation, test development, and standards for licensing.

Services
The American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB) is dedicated to the concept that individuals who have demonstrated competence to render counseling services are entitled to be licensed, certified, or registered as counselors by its member boards.

AASCB collects, interprets, and disseminates information on legal and regulatory matters, and works to further cooperation among individuals and associations involved in providing counseling services to the public.Furthermore, AASCB publishes materials for training programs and member boards. AASCB promotes regulatory excellence in the counseling profession by providing leadership, education, and service to our Member Boards.
Currently, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico have some form of counselor licensing. AASCB continues to work with states in their efforts to establish licensing, develop common standards, and nationwide portability of licenses.

The American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB) is respectful of the United States Constitution and the rights of our member state boards to regulate the professions in the interest of public protection.AASCB strives to promote uniformity of licensure requirements and references the commonalities of initial licensure eligibility among and between the member boards.

The membership fee of $900 includes membership for the Board Administrator and two appointed board members, a subscription to the organization's newsletter, The Liaison, invitations to AASCB programs and meetings, 2 delegate votes (one can be by the Board Administrator) at the Annual Business Meeting, and discounted annual conference fees.
