In my thirty seven years as an Iowa lawyer, I've represented consumers and small businesses in bankruptcy, defended against debt collection and helped consumers assert their rights. We can help you too. Many of our clients need to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy to get debt relief or to file Chapter 13 bankruptcy to stop a foreclosure or cure a mortgage default but not all of them do.
Services
Although permission from the Court is needed to buy or sell property, it's generally not difficult if the purchase or sale is reasonable, even if it means needing to reduce the Chapter 13 plan payment. Many of our Chapter 13 clients have had to buy vehicles or sell houses while in Chapter 13. To accomplish this we need information about the property to be sold or purchased, such as price, what type of property e.g.
Owing taxes to the IRS or Iowa Department of Revenue can feel like the worst type of debt you could have, but in reality there are several options for dealing with tax debt. For example, discharging taxes in bankruptcy is not as difficult as people think. You just have to follow some specific rules.
Thousands of people file bankruptcy each day because hard times prevent them from paying their bills. Job and medical problems are the most common reasons people file bankruptcy. A study by Harvard Law School showed that two out of three people in bankruptcy have lost their job and half have experienced a serious health problem.
Consumers in Iowa can sue someone who knows or should know their conduct is an unfair practice, deception, false promise or false pretense. The conduct must be in connection with the advertisement, sale or lease of consumer merchandise, but the definition of merchandise is broadly defined to cover services, goods and many other items.
Unfortunately, most people do nothing to defend debt collection lawsuits. Maybe that's because they don't think there's anything that can be done or maybe they don't want to spend money on a lawyer. But there are sometimes defenses to these lawsuits and it might be cheaper to pay an attorney to defend the lawsuit than to let a large debt become a judgment.

Nancy was very helpful with my bankruptcy experience. Melissa was also very helpful. They explained and answered all of my questions. They were both prompt with getting back to me by phone and email. Nancy took a very personal, stressful situation, and made it as positive as possible. I felt very accomplished after it was all finished.

My husband and I were taken advantage of by an unscrupulous roofing company. Nancy took on our case, despite the company being in Chicago. She successfully achieved a judgment here in Iowa and has been working with a collection attorney from Chicago on our behalf. I would highly recommend Nancy to anyone who has been taken advantage of by an unscrupulous contractor. She will work hard on your behalf.

Nancy and I have been colleagues as sole practitioner Iowa bankruptcy attorneys for quite a while. I not only highly commend her for her extremely sophisticated knowledge of the complexities of the bankruptcy law and its practice but also for her thorough professionalism. She is immensely experienced in her work and I have often turned to her to share her perspective and advice on difficult issues--which she readily provides. In addition Nancy has that special quality that makes a consumer bankruptcy attorney extraordinary--she is someone who gives much more than she'll ever receive financially

Nancy and I have been colleagues for several years. She's very knowledgeable about bankruptcy law, foreclosure and consumer related matters and has extensive experience. Nancy works hard to achieve the best results for her clients and doesn't back down from a challenge. She's well respected in the legal community and is a great resource for other attorneys as well. I would recommend anyone with questions about bankruptcy or consumer rights issues to consult with Nancy.
