My name is Kirtana Ahluwalia and I'm the owner and photographer at Golden Shutter Portraits in the San Francisco Bay area! My love for photography started in 2010 when I was in the UK pursuing my post graduate from University of Cambridge. However, once my son was born, my love for landscape photography was replaced by the love for human portraiture and I found myself taking photographs of my tiny minion all the time.
I started GSP in 2017 with the promise to create timeless portraits of your favorite people. As a mother, I've realized that the value of your child's beautiful portrait will only grow as they age. Baby's first year is filled with fleeting moments that can be missed at the blink of an eye! Your little one will never be this tiny and fragile again.

Pregnancy is beautiful and even though you might not feel beautiful right now, my job is to document this phase of your life so one day your child can look at your maternity portraits and see how beautiful you truly looked while nurturing them in your baby belly.
As a San Francisco maternity photographer, I travel all over the Bay Area, from San Francisco to San Jose and even East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley and Fremont) for outdoor maternity sessions.Studio maternity sessions are held in my studio in Belmont. Maternity portraits are best done between 32-34 weeks of pregnancy as your baby bump will have started to show and third trimester tiredness has not yet kicked in at that point!

My goal as a SF Bay Area newborn photographer is to make sure I capture every little detail of your new tiny human! I custom design every session to make sure all colors, props, setups and outfits used in the session are complimentary to your style and home dcor. All sessions are held in my Belmont Newborn Photography studio.
These are perfect to celebrate your little one's first year of life! I offer a modern, minimalist design for in-studio portraits so that the focus is entirely on your little one. You'll have access to the studio wardrobe to choose from some of the finest outfits handmade for birthday girls and boys!
My style of photography is a mix of candid and posed portraiture, but all focused on telling a story about you and yours! As you go through my portfolio, you'll notice that I love using locations that allow me to capture beautiful sunsets and the stunning twilight sky for my outdoor sessions!

All portrait sessions are custom designed and photographed by Kirtana Ahluwalia, San Francisco Newborn and Family Photographer. Session fees of $300 is required to secure your appointment for any type of session. This covers the pre-session planning consultation, session time, post-processing and your viewing appointment.

Kirtana is a fantastic choice if you are like me and seeking a photographer for a young family. She kindly accommodated our requests for time and place (which is so very important when working with babies and toddlers). She worked quickly, but carefully, and produced the most genuine and beautiful photos of my family. She’s so warm and friendly and made best friends with my 3 year old within 5 minutes of meeting her. Kirtana captured my girls perfectly. I feel indebted to her for the gift she’s given us. We’ll be calling her again year after year!

I reached out to Kirtana for urgent headshots. She was very responsive and one of the only photographers that got on the phone with me quickly and walked me through the process, helped me with styling and really took time to understand my needs. The shoot itself was a very good experience, she came up with multiple formal and casual poses and created unique headshots that accurately represented me. We chose the final images right after the shoot and the edited images were returned almost overnight. Excellent experience overall and I’m very happy with my final headshots. I would highly recommend

Part of being a new mom is to plan ahead and document every sentimental milestone. Well, this new mom found herself desperately searching for a photographer over the holidays to capture my daughter’s 6 month milestone as a family. My only caveat based on our previous experience in an outdoor shoot was done in miserable weather looking like a hot mess and deer in headlights so I knew I wanted something indoors, cozy and minimal. Kirtana was very easy to work with. She catered to all our requirements and gave expert advice when needed. Her props for both mommy and baby are best in class and we had plenty of options to chose from. We got an heirloom album package which our little one (now 20months) likes to go through everyday. She loves seeing her baby pictures. So happy we went with Golden Shutter Portraits to commemorate our special time of life.
