My name is Carson J. Heefner and I'm a criminal defense trial lawyer. I have over 20 years experience defending people charged with crimes in State and Federal court, having handled well over 2000 cases, ranging from speeding tickets to murder. I have also represented clients in over 60 appeals in both the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court.
When a person has been convicted of a crime, he or she has the right to file an appeal with the Minnesota Court of Appeals. In some cases, an appeal can reach the Minnesota Supreme Court. While the Court of Appeals accepts every case review request that they receive, the Supreme Court only hears a small number of appeals.
Often, people believe that assault can only be charged if they physically touch someone in a violent way. This is not true in Minnesota. Not only can someone be charged with assault for committing the physical act, but they can be charged with assault for causing another person to be in fear for their life or safety.
A Burglary Offense is a serious crime in the State of Minnesota. This offense can be either a Felony or a Gross Misdemeanor, depending on a variety of factors. The most common way to be charged with a Burglary Offense is if someone breaks into a home or businesss and steals something. But, a Burglary Offense can be charged for far less obvious reasons.
Child Pornography is a very serious offense in Minnesota and across the United States. Since the internet became pervasive in all areas of our lives, the number of people investigated and charged with possession and dissemination of child pornography has grown at an astounding rate. In Minnesota, this offense is a felony and has far reaching consequences other than just a conviction.

This summer (2021), Carson was amazing in helping my son defend himself against reckless driving charges that were dropped on him after a car accident. My son was staring down hefty fines, many years of increased insurance costs, along with at least one misdemeanor on his record. This was a (non-injury) car accident that quickly turned into something even scarier and more horrible with police and city attorney involvement.

I have worked with other lawyers in similar situations and none even compare to how much Carson helped me. He is very knowledgeable and was always there to answer questions I had.
