Services
In 1851, Lot Whitcomb donated land and a partially completed two-family house to the Episcopal Diocese to serve as St Johns Episcopal Church on the outskirts of the budding pioneer town of Milwaukie. Though Whitcomb had perhaps envisioned that the church would still be in service 145 years later, he probably did not foresee that it would be moved three times, including once by barge up the Willamette River.
Research shows that the average rental rate for a historic wedding venue can cost thousands of dollars. Because we are community owned and operated, we are able to offer Oaks Pioneer Church at seasonal rates ranging from $600 to $750 for a three hour booking. One hour rehearsals reservations are included with each booking.
Oaks Pioneer Church sits just three blocks from the bustling streets of the dual village of Sellwood-Moreland and has EVERYTHING any couple will need or want for their special day. You make efforts to "Buy Local". Why not Wed Local!? It makes for exceptional convenience and a truly unique Portland experience.

Based on experience at this location as a wedding photographer it provides a great setting for photos, but inconvenient for ceremony venue, guests, and preparation. It is a cute old church and grounds though. The website does not provide an accurate representation of the facilities that are (or not) available to guests. Especially, small children who may attend the ceremony. The distance to reception venue is also a consideration.

My friend got married at this church yesterday in the small historic Chapel, and it was very cute and quaint. The officiant was very kind and told some great stories & really brought the guests into the ceremony which I really liked!
Holds about 50 people, with around 12-14 wooden benches. Not a ton of room for photos, but it was a perfect fit for the happy couple!

My husband and I were married here recently, and I am so glad we chose this venue for our nuptials. The space is classic but not overly religious, architecturally gorgeous, but snug which suited us and our small group of 25. Pews comfortably seat 3 adults. I would not recommend this space for more than 50 people
Lorraine, the venue coordinator is an absolute sweetheart. One of the church's volunteers, Jim,who I had the pleasure of meeting on a couple of occasions, was extremely helpful and pleasant.
Tips for brides
-definitely reserve for at least 3 hours. Between setting up, ceremony,

Hi, I'm very lazy. My husband and I had a tiny wedding with only 15 people or so in attendance. We wanted a church that was small enough to not draw that much attention to our small guest list, and also wanted a church that was not overly religious, crosses in your face, etc. This place was PERFECT.
It's very small and cute and we didn't even need to decorate because of all the little details within the building. My dad loves history and he just adored the informational plaque on the back wall. He was very impressed.
The small dressing area in the back was the perfect size, it

This is a very popular wedding chapel in Portland. It's cute, historic, doesn't require a lot of decorating because of it's original charm. It only holds about 70 guests but it does have a small ready room for the bride. It allows candle lighting (many historic churches don't) and it's so close to the river to get photography by the water after the ceremony.
