Prospective students are encouraged to come by and watch a Martial Arts or Self Defense class or two and meet our instructors. You can even join us on the mat to see if Aikido, self defense, or other martial arts classes are right for you. There are no contracts and there is never any pressure to join.

Wadokai Aikido is the international organization of the students of Sensei Roy Suenaka. More a family than an organization, Wadokai Aikido is a martial art that was founded in part to further the growth and spread of Aikido, the way of harmony. The members of Wadokai are a close-knit group, and every Wadokai dojo teaches Suenaka-Ha Tetsugaku-Ho Aikido, or "Suenaka style, philosophical way."
Services
Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba as a synthesis of his martial studies, philosophy, and religious beliefs. Aikido is often translated as "the Way of unifying life energy" or as "the Way of harmonious spirit." Ueshiba's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury.
Our Aikido classes are dynamic and interactive. You will learn effective self-defense techniques through vigorous repetitive practice with partners. You will also practice ki development methods to promote unification of mind and body through a combination of unique and active exercises. Classes move along at an active pace from beginning to end in a collaborative environment.

This is my first experience learning self defense classes. Both instructors and students in this dojo are very kind. I feel like in familly. The instructors have a lot of patience and thus the most enjoyable and effective learning. A great advantage is that the class starts at 7:30 pm which gives us more time to arrive from our jobs. Thanks Aikido of Raleigh, thanks Robbie and Daniel.

Effective Aikido that is true to the founder. The instructor's teacher, Roy Suenaka, is one of the few remaining people who was an uchi deshi to O'Sensei himself. The people there are all really friendly. And, the instructors are great at explaining things and helping people learn. You will love this school. Plus, it's FREE.

I originally came to train karate at the dojo. The karate sensei convinced me to try aikido there shortly afterwards. It was one of the best decisions I've made. The family atmosphere made it a perfect fit for me from the beginning. The instruction is of high quality, and all of the instructors are patient with the development of their students. I would highly recommend any individual and/or family to come try a class or two!
