We have a full service cocktail lounge where you can enjoy a top shelf margarita and some sports on our giant flat screen. Or you can get lunch with the family and enjoy the open air patio seating at the Oakway location. We also offer takeout dishes for 2-4 people, low-carb menu items, an appetizer menu, an incredible drink menu, the best Mexican food in town, with two great locations to serve you.
Chapala Mexican Restaurant was started in 1994 by Martin and Salvador Pelayo and their spouses after working for a large Mexican restaurant in Seattle for many years. They found the location in the south hills of Eugene, Oregon and brought all their money together to start the restaurant. Chapala originally employed about 15 employees (with eight being family members).
Located in the beautiful Oakway Center, you'll enjoy your meal in our casual but elegant dining room or outdoor patio. All of our menu items are prepared to the same strict standards established at our original location at 29th and Willamette. While our Oakway Center location does not have a bar or lounge area, we do offer complete bar service and we will gladly make your favorite libation; including our house specialty: The Guava Margarita!

We pride ourselves in our fresh ingredients and partnering with local providers in the preparation of our dishes.
These famous house nachos are made with crispy chips & your choice of cheese only or cheese with ground beef, chicken, or picadillo. Topped with tomatoes & green onions. Jalepeos on request. A warm blend of selected cheeses & chiles baked together in an insanely delicious jalapeno dip. Our house nachos are topped with your choice of refried or Rancho (cholesterol-free) beans, guacamole, sour cream, jalapeos, tomato, onions & cheddar cheese.

Very nice and clean restaurant. The staff is very attentive and courteous. Our server was right there to greet us and take our drink order and see if we were ready for our food order. When we got our food it was hot and delicious. We had the albondigas soup and the pork carnitas. Both were very tasty. We have dinned here many times and it never disappoints. I strongly recommend this restaurant

Average food quality, average presentation, average quantity.... makes for a "meh" experience... it struck me strange that the carne had zero seasoning and that there were only grilled bell pepper and onions -- no mushrooms (my faves)... other than that the food was cooked okay and the wait time wasn't too bad...

I've only ordered from this place a couple times, and yet I can already tell you that you must consider them as your go-to. The carne asada burrito literally has these amazing chunks of perfectly sized and flattened steaks, perfectly seasoned and accompanied by the best veggies and guac and sour cream that you can get. You can't get any better than this. I also ordered a side of some beans and some rice, and each alone could fill a persons belly. Thanks Chapala!!

Very good and authentic food. We celebrated a birthday party with 15+ guests and Chapalas was easily able to accommodate us. Very pleasant staff...as a matter of fact, they all gathered to sing the birthday girl a birthday tune while she sported a Sombrero! Awesome experience and located on a must visit area of Eugene.

We had not eaten here in several years, so thought we would try Chapala's again. Excellent food, service, and drinks 🍸, margaritas were very strong. Our server was Elizabeth. She was very attentive and made sure our whole experience was good 👍. Appreciate her going above and beyond her job. Definitely recommend to everyone. Outside 💺 nice and cool. Thank you.

I want to start by saying that the service was good. No problems there. But the food and prices were out of this world bad. For the amount of food I received, it should not have been $15 even in Oregon. I ordered Chile Colorado and the beef was cooked perfectly; however, the sauce had absolutely no spice and barely any flavor. Two people in my party ordered Floutas and they came in a soft shell tortilla. The chips were stale and the salsa had no flavor. We even wondered if we had gotten "gringo food" but two of our friends ordered in Spanish considering they are Mexican.

Good good and portions. Had a 2-Taco Combination Plate, tacos were loaded high with shredded cheese. The salsa is on the edge of hot, but reasonable, and a good mix.
Friends had the nachos and were thrilled! Plenty of toppings, ground beef had a distinct and great taste (I'm told). Even the scallions received compliments.
We sat indoors, and there is seating available both indoor and outdoor (with heat posts).

Was a really good and live place in middle of the Eugene town area and a mall. Their outdoor seating was perfect for a sunny day. We ordered weekday lunch special items which were really in good portions and yummy. They're doing well with social distancing too, with spaced out outdoor seating. Will visit again if I come back to this area!

Finally tried out this Mexican restaurant since it's walking distance from my place. Warm chips and salsa brought over quickly. Wish the salsa had more kick. Water glasses were refilled without delay.
Got the mucho combination plate with a taco, chalupa, and chimichanga (all with ground beef). Food came out quickly as is the norm at Mexican restaurants. The taco and chalupa had to be eaten quickly due to sogginess factor. However, both were flavorful and disappeared fast. The refried beans and rice were pretty bland which is a shame. Didn't eat my chimichanga as I always order too much

A haunt for us. When we get a hankerin' for chips, salsa and margarita we find our way here. It's not a great restaurant but consistent. And, it's nearby.
The food is just ok. I wish the refried beans had more flavor. I wish, I wish. Spice it up a bit, something?

We had been looking forward all week to going to dinner at this place. It has been great through the years as one of the better places in Eugene for Mexican food, but not last night.
Glasses were dirty, it was pretty empty yet the service was very slow, and the food was bland as hell. What happened you guys? One of my enchiladas was filled with a gross mass of fat and veins, gross. We won't be going back until we hear that they have improved.

We've been going there since moving to Eugene 4 years ago. In the past 3 months we've stopped going there altogether. Some of the food is very good, but the burritos are uniformly tasteless and bland inside. I guess the sauce they put over the top is supposed to provide the flavor. I would give them 3 stars for the food.

Ate there last night and so glad we did. The service was attentive and friendly. My food was pretty good. I liked my cheese enchilada. My hard shell beef taco was uninspired. (I don't really like saucy, seasoned meat and I haven't found a place in Eugene that makes their hard shells themselves, so I guess it's pretty standard here.) The rice was really good and my husband really liked his chili relleno.
The horchata was to die for and they have the best salsa in town. Honestly, I would just go back just for those.
