Services
Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home located at 800 N. Market Street in Marion, IL dates back to 1914. It has grown through a series of owners who have devoted themselves to the care and concern of thousands of families in the Marion area. C.D. Ozment was the founder of the business in 1914. Johnson Hughes in Herrin has served Herrin families since 1933 when Paul Johnson and Joe Gualdoni established the facility at 200 North 16th in Herrin.
Larry G. Hughes grew up on a 250-acre dairy farm in northern Illinois in a small town called Scales Mound. The farm was built by his grandfather whose parents immigrated to America from Wales in the 19th century. He was in the first mortuary class at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL., graduating in 1966.
As you participate in the planning of the funeral service, you help to create a meaningful experience for everyone. There are basic decisions to make concerning what service you have envisioned for your loved one. The Hughes Funeral Homes offer complete service packages whether a family chooses a traditional service or cremation that make each funeral as unique as the individual.
At Hughes Funeral Homes we want to be there when you need us most. We conveniently offer two locations to better serve you. Both facilities offer beautiful and spacious chapels for funeral and memorial ceremonies and are totally handicap accessible. We invite you to take a personal tour of our facilities and discuss your needs with a member of our dedicated staff.
The Full or Traditional service is a funeral service that consists of a visitation for family and friends at our funeral home or at a church. Traditionally visitations are held the night before the funeral service but you may choose to hold it the day of the service. Following the funeral service a committal service may then be held at the cemetery of your choice.
