Growing up on a North Carolina farm in Robeson County, William Barker moved to Raleigh in 1973 to attend N.C. State University. He began real estate sales in 1979, and founded Barker Realty in 1984 as an investment and property management real estate company. William Barker began selling real estate in the Raleigh area in 1979 with Bacon and Company.
In 1989, William began building custom homes under William T. Barker Construction. He later formed Barker and Lovette Construction Company, specializing in commercial building renovations and fit-ups. Over this time period, William has also been involved as managing partner in several companies specializing in land development.

Fortunately for us, not only did Barker Realty provide us with a lovely house in excellent, move-in condition, we have learned to totally trust them to help us maintain it. Oriell was very nice and helpful. However, I applied for a home and it took forever just for them to tell me NO not enough income when my current rent was higher than the house I applied for. Once, I was able to get more income I called and inquired about another property and left a message. Of course, no one returned my call as of this very day.

I applied for a rental property that these people were managing. They charge me $50 for an application fee. They never check my credit and I spent weeks trying to get a phone call back. They never responded in anyway. When I tried to get my $50 back they refused to give me a refund stating that it was for an application fee and that I was not entitled to any type of response. So basically they can collect applications from hundreds of people for the same property and never respond. DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION!!!

Who ever "Dawn" is was very unprofessional, she always said she was too busy to get with us or at home working. Just for me to call in loops today and get someone on the phone. The lady on the phone was "karen" she said Dawn was in the office, bur not by her phone.... i said this is so unprofessinal , i am not getting off the phone until i get update on my application. Kren the procceeded to email her while i was on the phone with her as she cc me to the email. literally 2 mintues later i got a email from dawn saying the place has been leased. Very disgusting managing.

I’ve rented from Barkers Realty from 8/2020 to 7/2021.I was informed by Nicole, property manager that home was being sold by landlord and would receive a notice to vacate. Less than a month later, a for rent sign was placed in the yard. After researching the home, home was $900 a month and now being rented for $1200.00. Unfortunately when I tried to sign a lease, I was told I couldn’t unless co-applicant signed but unfortunately he abandoned the home and family 7/2/2020. It is very sad that these little towns are charging so much money for rent and most of these houses are not worth the amount that they're charging. Not to mention, they are so many different stipulations just to rent from these realtor companies. I really think the state of North Carolina need to be reported because all of a sudden, they are charging high rent and not paying much! Took forever to hear back from them multiple times. Application was a waste of money and time. We made enough money and were transferring jobs and because we had not transfered yet (because we lived hours away) they would not count it as income. They made us jump through hoops and they were never satisfied with what we could provide. This was an awful experience. We turn around and applied for another rental (different company, same requirements) and was moved in to our new home and had everything taken care of in less than a week. I live in one of Barker Realty's properties and I really love living there. They have maintenance people who take care of everything and if the problem is urgent the response is very quick. Sometimes you have to wait but they will always come thru. All of the people with whom I've dealt have been courteous and polite. Stephanie Leone, the new property manager (March 2021) has been especially considerate.

Slum lords in nice clothes. I moved out a month early, found another tenant to live in my apartment, and they gave me a notice to vacate. They then made me pay rent for the two weeks between my move out and the new tenant's move in, despite the fact that they *mandated I leave the apartment*. They charged me rent for an apartment they weren't letting me live in! Then, they shorted me on my deposit because I hadn't done a deep clean of the apartment, which included an "acid wash" of the tub and a removal of a stain in the carpet that *was already there when I moved in. Steer clear of Barker Realty. My family rented a property from Barker Realty from October 2017- November 2018 and we didn't have a pleasant experience with this company. The home we rented was well maintained, reasonably priced, and it was in a desirable location in Raleigh. However, the management team lacks customer service and care for tenants.
To start off, after three weeks of waiting to hear whether our rental application was approved, I decided to give the the company call. Lo and behold we were approved but no one thought to give us a call.

Barker Realty managed our rental property for 10 years and did a great job. Barker carefully screened applications and found us great tenants who took good care of our property and paid rents on time. Barker handled all of the maintenance requests, consulted with us on how we wanted to handle major repairs and even found reliable contractors to do the work. Our property manager was easy to work with and very professional. Best decision we made was to hire Barker to manage out out-of-state rental property.

I only applied for a unit with them. I had an outstanding credit report but a previous landlord apartment complex filed initial eviction proceedings against me when I complained too much about maintenance. They were never finalized since the case was settled. Barker falsely told the owner that I had an eviction on my record and I was eliminated from consideration for a rental.

They have DISMAL reviews, and yet expect you to fork over an 'application fee' with nothing offered in return. Their excuse was "well, everyone else is doing it." I cannot find strong enough words to urge you NOT to rent from Barker!!! Truly the worst rental experience I can imagine.
The apartment was NOT CLEANED, as promised, when we moved in and was totally filthy - dirt caked in all the door frames from previous tenants, etc.
It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get a timely response from property managers, even when you have a utility emergency. I had to call repeatedly, email repeatedly, get my husband to do the same OVER AND OVER to get a curt, unhelpful response from our property manager. All of this only after going through their reporting system online

Absolutely astounding. The lady they have in charge here "Carol" is one of the worst people I have encountered in customer service period. It is amazing this place is still in business with the attitude this woman and her front staff give upon tenancy.

The damage caused by Barker Realty is surreal.
They failed to mention to the credit company that I paid the amount I owed in full. The thing is, I did pay them back after they told me that they were no longer willing to listen to my disputes over the insane charges. For three years, I had a negative credit record in my name because Barker Realty decided to inflict as much damage as they can to me.
For those of you who are reading this, please do not rent from this evil, dishonest, and malicious company.

Horrible rental company. Yes, they do not clean before move in. They do not fix appliances. Very rude to try and sell a rental while still occupied , with no compensation and no respect, showings scheduled early in the morning while trying to get off to work and get kids ready for school.
