Sweet Basil's Cafe
When we opened this restaurant in 1996, we hoped to create a place where families and friends could come, enjoy themselves, and eat well. We offer breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Our produce is fresh, never frozen, and our meats are 100% hormone-free. We do off-site catering as well as on-site private parties at our Livingston, NJ location.
Services
Sweet Basil's specializes in catering and private parties. We offer both on-site at our Livingston restaurant, and off-site. We host bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays, rehearsal dinners, anniversaries, baptisms, christenings, communions, and other private parties for any occasion. Below is an array of our most popular and desired catering dishes.
Sweet Basils is available for all of your corporate catering needs. We have provided catering for many businesses in the area, including pharmaceutical companies, law firms, medical offices, accounting firms and financial companies. Whether you are looking for catering for an office party, a retirement dinner, birthday or holiday parties, Sweet Basils can provide you with a delicious selection of food.
Relocated to Livingston, this "inviting" New American BYO is still serving up "high-quality" brunches (and more) to "ladies who lunch" and others in a "cozy", "bistro-style" space; some find the new surrounds "noisier", but prices remain "reasonable" and service steady, making it an overall "welcome addition" to the neighborhood.

Solid cafe in Livingston. Easy enough parking in the lot although it can get busy. Had coffee which was fine not great. Had the southwest breakfast burrito which was very good with just a little bit of heat. Very good crispy hash browns on the side. Give them a try!

Speechless $58 for eggs, pancakes, bacon and coffee for 2 people plus tip $70 bill… I am all about a great experience and do not mind paying top dollar for incredible food and superb restaurant experience except this wasn’t it! The food was good but it wasn’t anything special. The restaurant decor is basic nothing stellar. The service fine. The area alone should not be the only qualifier for excessively charging customers for standard breakfast options. Example: $5 for a side of 2 eggs, when a dozen eggs costs less, is absurd and a form of price gouging in my opinion. So while the food is

Food and coffee were fine so far. But how come every single time, three times to be exact, when I'm there I feel like they can wait for your to leave??

Ether waiter keeps asking " Just a check?... Just the check?" while plenty of tables are still available, either you are waiting and waiting for them to take your order, or they are asking you to move while all the tables are empty except for two.

Went there three times only because it was convinient. I never said or mentioned anything to them, it didn't seem that would be useful. It's a very strange and unusual experience

A classic brunch spot and a great environment to catch up with friends. They don't take reservations so we went early because we had a big party. The food was great all around and you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. Definitely recommend the banana pecan pancakes!

We came here for a work lunch and was surprised at just how busy the restaurant was. We went on a Tuesday and arrived around 12. Bad move because the parking lot was a hot mess. We managed to squeeze in 3 cars at the back of the lot by the day care but wasn't sure if we were truly allowed to park there. We had a party 7-8 and we were surprisingly seated quickly. Our server came by soon after we were seated and our orders were in a few minutes after. I ordered the lox with goat cheese omelette and it was delicious! My vegan colleague was also pleased at the number of options that appealed

I went here for my bday brunch and it was an overall satisfying experience! I ordered the vanilla bean pear French toast and it was honestly the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was nice as well and we were seated in a short time. My friends loved the food and our waitress was very accommodating. I will definitely be back!

WOW! Sweet Basil's Cafe is a hidden gem! I placed my pick up order online, and opted for them to bring it to my car. It took them about 15 minutes to prepare my food which was impressive since they were very busy. If you place your order online, call them when you're in the parking lot and they will bring it out to you.

The food was all good! The pancakes were fluffy and buttery just like I like them! The omelette, potatoes, sausage and bacon were all absolutely delicious and made fresh. There's lots of options to choose from on the menu! I stuck to the basics this time, but next

I came in here about a week ago by myself I thought it was a great location, they have outside seating the only thing that was a little odd when I got there that they did not have anyone greeting people or sitting people you have to Walk in
And randomly ask any waiter to sit you. All the waiters are super friendly which I was really happy about service was great my food came really fast my eggs didn't have too much flavor considering that it was a "Spanish scramble" n a little too much potatoes on this plate n honestly the salsa on the side was just there cuz it didn't taste

There is a perfect word for a place that is neither bad nor good, that is truly underwhelming in every way imaginable but not that bad that you walk away angry.

That word is 'meh'.

Honestly cannot understand how this place could be so busy at noonish on a Saturday. Honestly, Livingston peeps, you can aspire to better things, surely?

This place has a couple of vegan breakfast/brunch options. I totally recommend trying them. My companion also enjoyed the pulled pork tacos.
We arrived around 10:30am on a Thursday. The cafe didn’t become crowded until 11 or 11:30 am. The ambience of the cafe changed after the crowd. When we arrived, everyone spoke softly, including the server and guests. Later, two parties, seated on our left and right, carried on conversations loudly. Thankfully, we left soon after the crowd hit.
My second time visiting this place was not as pleasant as the first time. However, My partner and I did visit

Weekday lunch. It was busy despite it being a weekday- which is always a good sign!

Even though they were short staffed the service was on point. We were seated quickly, food came out fast and we had frequent check in with multiple servers.

The menu is huge and has something for everyone. The pancakes are AMAZING - Tiramisu, wild berry with mascarpone (delicious) were all a hit!
Huevos Rancheros and chicken cheesesteak was great as well. The portions were huge, the food was delicious and everyone was friendly.

Will definitely be back and highly recommend !

It was a nice vibe. People where masked up and enjoying themselves you know just normal conversations. It was to its capacity food was yummy too many plates, meaning they had every dish on separate plates. 🥚 🥓 🥞. Otherwise service was pleasant. Would definitely dine again.

I really loved this spot! I wish they can be a bigger space so they can serve more people, but the food is great and the staff does a great job at making sure they're being attentive to everyone. This place has an option for everyone whether you have a sweet tooth or are more into savory. I wish I weren't so full so that I could try the desserts!

This place was very underwhelming. I didn't take pictures because I got caught up talking with friends.

The food was just not good. We got in around 3 to be told we should order soon because dinner menu will be out soon. I really came in anticipating they offer brunch lunch and dinner since they didn't specify timings on their website. But anyway we waited for dinner menu anyway.

We got chicken Murphy, some chicken with a ridiculous amount of balsamic glaze, steak and frites my friend enjoyed. And also some salmon with risotto (again, not good) way too buttery...not flavorful.

Ordered off the specials menu and the skillet was amazing! So much food. Some meals at our table looked better than others but we were satisfied overall. Servers were so nice but a little all over; our coffees came 10 minutes after our food and some orders were wrong, but they did seem really busy and they corrected what we noted. Wait on a Sunday at 11 was around 20 minutes for 6. Overall recommend!

I wanted to provide an update as I had probably the worst experience at Sweet Basil's Cafe. I added my name to the waitlist and the wait felt like forever. I decided to take my niece and nephew to the car to kill time as they were complaining they were tired of standing. We sat in the car for about 30 minutes then decided to call the restaurant to get an update. As soon as I called, I was told I had to wait an additional 15-20 minutes as they were busy. I waited some more until my nephew said we should head over to see if the wait changed. We walked into the restaurant and I asked the hostess

Ordered: Blueberry Stuffed French Toast ($11), Whiskey "R&B" Pancakes ($11.50), Country Skillet ($12)

Stopped by for brunch after a busy morning and was pleasantly surprised! The service was great. Our waitress was very welcoming and attentive. The thick slices of French toast were soft and fluffy, the Country Skillet was flavorful and cheesy, but the star of the show was definitely the pancakes! Although I'm not usually a fan of raisins or bananas, I actually didn't mind them here because the pomegranate caramel sauce was so delicious that it brought all the flavors together

That's truly all I can say.
The Banana Pecan French Toast is HANDS DOWN one of the greaTest offerings on their menu. It is PERFECT. you don't need ANY syrup. It's not too sweet. It's the perfect medley of bananas, pecans, and bread. I absolutely love it. If you go to sweet basil, it is a MUST TRY!

There aren't many places to go for brunch in the Livingston area so we decided to give Sweet Basil Cafe a try. I checked the Yelp reviews and noticed that so many people get the fried chicken and waffle. SO, when in Rome....Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my meal. The chicken was fried well but it lacked so much seasoning. It was more of a chicken tender (without salt) then an actual wing or drumstick. I absolutely love waffles, but this one was just too dry. Since the reviews are decent, it could've been an off day. However, I think it's worth it to say that the French toast

Nice local spot for brunch and lunch. They make great sandwiches. Really liked their chicken, bacon, avocado sandwich and the bonus side of pesto pasta. Big portion so was able to stretch into 2 lunches or you could share. Hub liked the chicken cutlet sandwich which was buttermilk fried chicken with mozzarella and pesto. Ordering was easy and quick.

Amazing brunch spot in Livingston!

The food was delicious! The tuna tacos were perfectly seasoned and seared. The crab cake eggs benedict was golden brown and tasty. The huevos rancheros had a delicious mix of flavors from the chorizo and pulled pork. Service was overall good, but difficult to track down.

Waiting for my doc's appt nearby & decided to eat here based on the good reviews. It's in a strip mall, raining that day & saw that the door was kept open. They are allowing socially distanced indoor-dining.

It was brunch & got the mint hot choco whip too sweet & had to ask to be fixed twice, diluted with hot milk. Eventually, it was good.

For the dish, I decided to order a creative benedict never tasted before: the "Big Benedict" with corn bread instead of english muffin (!!) and andolaisse sausages. It was NICEEEEE. The corn bread made this the most enjoyable
