Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones in Lincoln, Nebraska offers individuals and families the tools and support they need to live a healthy, stable life. Our outpatient services encompass mental health counseling, drug and alcohol assessment for adults and youth, substance use counseling and treatment, and safety-sensitive education and counseling.

We also understand that for many individuals and families coping with mental health or substance use issues, they may be vulnerable to some of life's basic needs in an emergency. At Steppings Stones, we are able to provide some of those personal services to help them get through those difficult times.
Services
In 1995, Lincoln Medical Education Partnership in Lincoln, Nebraska and Region V of Nebraska saw a need to create a program for individuals and families who were struggling to cope with drug and alcohol addiction and had limited access to these types of services due to economic and medical situations.
Drug and alcohol evaluations are available to adults Monday through Friday by appointment only. Pregnant or parenting women and/or IV drug users are given priority in scheduling. Stepping Stones in Lincoln, NE also offers drug and alcohol evaluations to individuals in jail if needed. Seeking the help of a drug and alcohol counselor is just as hard for patients as it was when they were first succumbing to the traps of drug and alcohol.
Substance abuse has no type. Anyone can struggle with substance abuse and seeking a substance abuse counselor shows strength. So, what is substance abuse? Simply put, it is using drugs that are not legal. It also includes over-using legal substances like alcohol or prescription medication or using them in ways not suggested by manufacturers (WebMD).
In the U.S., about one in five adults lives with a mental illness. Close to 50% of adults will have at least one mental illness during their lifetime. Mental health encompasses psychological, emotional, and social well-being. Individuals often face mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, coping with stress.
It is never too late to take back your life with substance abuse treatment. There are many reasons why a person succumbs to substance abuse: being exposed to substance use at a young age, sustaining an injury and unintentionally becoming addicted to pain medications, as a way to cope with trauma or painful emotions, or mental health issues, just to name a few.

I am a past employee/counselor at Stepping Stones. Life took me in another direction but I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I had to work there! As someone who has been behind the scenes at Stepping Stones, I can say that the program is constantly developing and looking for the best ways to create a comfortable, safe and welcoming environment for each persons individuality. I praise the counselors and the director of this program for working closely together and always willing to brainstorm new and creative ideas to serve individuals.
