Academy Koei-Kan Karate DO
Classes begin with an active calisthenic warm up and stretch known as Taiso. Taiso consists of functional movement and stretching that helps build strength and flexibility. We also incorporate cardiovascular(aerobic) exercise and plyometric(speed-strength) elements and other various exercises to help increase circulation, increase heart rate and get the kids sweating.

Our program will develop basic martial arts techniques and core strength. Traditional Karate is a blend of discipline, Japanese culture and mental awareness. In addition to unlimited individual instruction, the Koei-Kan Academy offers group training two times each week. These group classes are designed to help students master both basic and advanced skills.
Services
The name "Koei-Kan" was suggested to the founder of the system, Eizo Onishi, by his mentor, the late Master Kanken Toyama. To cultivate ourselves fully and to make the greatest use of our lives is the aim of our Koei-Kan study. The development of this type of existence is beneficial to all life, as well as to that of the individual.
The Academy of Koei-Kan Karate of Santa Barbara is a Locally Owned and Family Operated business. For the past 24 years, Kim and Tony Becerra have been the driving force behind the Academy and its' community of local families that make it a beacon of hope and opportunity for youth and adult programs that foster growth and exposure to the Arts and Sport.

My big kids did 10 years of karate when we lived down in San Diego; so, I am no stranger to the dojo. After trials and tribulations at other locations here in SB, I finally found the perfect professional karate environment for my six year old. I look forward to many prosperous years at Koei Kan Karate-Santa Barbara

It's been a very very long time that I had trained under Sensei Becerra but I look back and value the lessons he taught. I gained overall coordination and power in my strikes as well as self-confidence in my defense skills. I still have the very effective front kick, right cross and blocks that he showed me so many years ago.

Thank you Sensei and I am very glad you are still teaching.

I love this place, it’s family friendly! My nephew and daughter are both attending and are very active. Tony Becerra is awesome! He’s got such great experience with kids and is always very nice and always has a smile on his face. Come and bring the kids! They will learn discipline and will also learn how to defend themselves!

I didn't know a thing about Karate before my child started at this Dojo. I thought it would be fun for him to give it a try -- the structured instruction and camaraderie from the other students seemed like something he might enjoy. It's been almost a year later, and a few belts earned (with hard work!) and he loves it. Other sports have seasons and come and go. Koei-Kan karate is 5 days a week all year. Designing a program this way really gets a child engaged and dedicated to the sport. Nothing gets boring at Koei-Kan -- the instructors are amazing and really know how to teach at each

I wish I would have enrolled our children sooner! We have two very active children that were a bit defiant and wild. One was struggling socially and one desperately needed structure and discipline! After about 4 weeks of karate 3-4 days a week noticed a REMARKABLE improvement in school and at home. We are receiving positive feedback from teachers and peers have noticed excellent behavior at home. Tony and his instructors are patient, kind, but appreciate constructive and respectful discipline. We can’t thank you enough!!

I have been training here since 1996 and I am so grateful to have found a Dojo where the traditional Japanese martial arts are taught. My son also trained beginning at 5 years old and continued through high school. The discipline that is taught and expected helps all kids in all areas of life! So if you are looking for a great kids martial arts school then this is definitely your Dojo. If you are looking as a adult to learn Karate or just get fit then you have found the right place!
