For the past 30 plus years as a real estate professional, I have helped many families realize the dream of home ownership. One day as a small child growing up in New Jersey, my dad had taken all of us children to his favorite fishing spot on the Passaic River. Sullivan County's southern border is located 70 miles to the northwest of New York City. As of the 2010 census, the population was 77,547. The county has a total area of 997 square miles, of which 968 square miles is land and 29 square miles is water surface. The highest point in the county is a 3,118-foot peak known locally as Beech Mountain, near Hodge Pond.
