Here is a little about myself. When you hear people say life is always changing, I am a good example. For many years my major interest in life was learning History and Political Science, which became my major at Mount Holyoke College in 1993. Reading the paper, Time magazine, and watching the news were me.
I lived abroad in France for almost 2 years and after college, I became a foreign language teacher of French for 5 years and I really loved that. But, little by little, the massage practice was really speaking to me and well, look at me today. What I love now is to practice natural health, happiness and helping others achieve that.

Ruthie Piper Hardee is the founder of Ashiatsu Deepfeet Bar Therapy and created the first nationally approved course-study for a western barefoot effleurage technique using bars on the ceiling. After graduating from massage school in 1990 and beginning her practice, Ruthie felt the repetitive compressive techniques from providing deep tissue bodywork start to take a toll on her hands, wrists and low back.
A POWERFUL ALLY :There's no denying the power of bodywork. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen. Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related.
I was visiting Portland for the weekend, met Maureen, and decided to try a massage. Wow, was that the right decision! Maureen is an extremely talented massage therapist. She offers many treatments that were new to me including ashiatsu and use of heat (stones, hands). While I was a bit intimidated about trying ashiatsu, Maureen was very skilled and balanced with her pressure and she checked in often to make sure all was good.

While in Portland for a business meeting, I was fortunate to be able to schedule a session with Maureen.
The 75 minute Ashiatsu massage was just what I needed to work out the tension and stress from travel.
Maureen was very caring and thorough and I highly recommend her. Her studio is very conveniently located near Monument Square.
If/when I return to Portland, I will definitely set up another session!

I can highly recommend getting a massage at Massage Medicine Studio. I am fairly new to massage therapy and Maureen was patient, professional, asked questions about any health or physical issues, and really listened to my responses. The studio is quiet, clean, warm and inviting. The ashiatsu barefoot massage was amazing.
I walked in on a cold, rainy Spring day, carrying all the tensions of working on a computer. I left refreshed, relaxed, and re-energized. It was a wonderful, calming experience.
