Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home was established in 1900 by Martin Joseph "Harry" Stetzer and hie wife, Allie. In 1921, they moved from a small frame building on Main Street to their current locatin at the southwest corner of Main and Hill Streets, in what was known as the Bewley Boarding House.
The funeral home remained under the ownership and operation of the Stetzer family until 2007, when grandson, Mack Harvey Longmire, Jr. sold the family business to J.B. Gulley and Stephen Bales. After the death of J.B. Gulley, Stephen bought out J.B's half and became sole owner of Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home along with his wife, Karen.

The basic Military Funeral Honors (MFH) ceremony consists of the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veterans' family and the playing of Taps. The ceremony is performed by a funeral honors detail consisting of at least two members of the Armed Forces. The Funeral Honors rendered to you or your veteran will be determined by the status of the veteran.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a Government headstone or marker for the unmarked grave of any deceased eligible veteran in any cemetery around the world, regardless of their date of death. When the grave is already marked, applicants will have the option to apply for either a traditional headstone or marker, or a new device (available spring 2009).

The morning my Moma passed I firmly believe God himself sent Steve Bales and his staff. I feel he was a angel God sent to me and my family. I can’t say enough good about Setzer-Bales. The staff and Mr. Bales himself.treated us with the upmost respect and kindness and just the whole overall experience I cannot say enough good about them. And we will never forget that. The job they did on my moma was absolutely hands down the best I’ve ever seen. If you are looking for the same thing for one of ur family members don’t need to look any farther then Setzer - Bales. I have never been treated so
