The dog days of summer are upon us. Please make sure to keep pets safe and healthy by providing plenty of water for hydration, limiting outdoor time during high temperatures to avoid heart stroke, and securing pets during fireworks and thunderstorms as they may panic and run away from home to seek shelter.
If your pet is known to have anxiety from storms and fireworks, your veterinarian may be able to recommend calming medication. Before walks, test the pavement to make sure it's not too hot for your pet's paws. Do not take pets in the car with you unless absoultely necessary, and do not leave pets unattended in your vehicle.

Dr. Evan Kirk's interest in veterinary medicine came at an early age when he would accompany his dog on visits to Dr. Joseph Brewer, founder of Brewer Animal Hospital. This experience eventually inspired him to attend the University of Illinois, where he earned his veterinary degree, and then back to the place where his dream was first sparked.

Absolutely the best veterinary care. For twenty years, Dr Ward and Dr Kirk have given the most exemplary care and kindness to our furry pet family. They are good to people too:) I cannot say enough about the outstanding quality of care, professionalism, and deep heart with which the work is done at this clinic.

I first met Joe Brewer as a volunteer for Animal Protective League back in the Stone Age when a shelter was still a dream. He came in on a weekend to care for my first (horrible!) rescue. They've made some great saves and comforted some of my greatest losses. Dr Kirk and I have "matured" together, and I just met the new vet, Dr Rucker who seems wonderful, too. They also have a great vet tech!! I've used several vets in the area, and Brewer's is one of the very best, combining compassion with expertise and a genuine love for animals. Excellent choice!

I recently had an emergency with my FurBaby Naomi. She had gotten ahold of my vape pen and was acting bizarre. I called and the excellent team at Brewer's calmed me down and said to bring her right in. They treated her (and I) with tenderness and professionalism. They assured me this happens a lot and did not judge me. I initially chose them because of the close proximity to my house. But after experiencing their service, I go knowing Naomi is receiving the best care. Can't say enough good things. I would recommend to anyone.

We’ve been really happy with all the doctors and techs at Brewer Animal Hospital for the past 5 years for our two dogs. They’re helpful, patient, friendly, and answer all our questions. They are frank about giving you risks and benefits of different treatment options. Care is affordable, they work quickly, and they’re great about reminding me to make an appointment when our dogs need a vaccine or new meds. Their office is clean and all the employees are helpful and professional.

We have always used and loved Brewer for our pets, because we’ve always had exotics (hamsters and sugar gliders) and Dr. Ward has always been wonderful with them!
We recently got our first dog, and she’s very timid. We saw Dr. Rucker and she was wonderful with our shy Tippi girl. She went at Tippi’s pace, sat down on the floor with her, and made her feel comfortable by offering treats before examining her at all. I can’t recommend them enough… I’ve never seen them do anything other than go way above and beyond for our fur babies!!! 💜

I have used Brewer as long as I can remember. At least owning 8 dogs and 1 cat. have travelled extensively w my service dog, I have NEVER had better veterinary care anywhere in the US or UK. When my dog Rusty got cancer and I needed to say the final goodbye, Dr. Ward went above and beyond. She came out to my car and gave him a shot to make him sleepy first. Waited so he would not have anxiety about his legs messed w. He HATED NAIL TRIMS. This made the admin of the meds easier on him. She hugged me when I cried and told me she loved him too. He was one of those special dogs that only comes around

I have been going to Brewer Animal Hospital for over 26 years. First with my pug and now with my shorkie. They have always been reliable and knew what was going on with my boys. Even as the vet staff has retired and new vets came on board, the quality has neve been lost. They take time and care with them. Always coming up with alternatives for good health and longevity.

We have been taking our pets to Brewer for as long as I can remember and have never had a bad experience. The doctors are all VERY knowledgeable and the support staff are extremely friendly and caring. I couldn't imagine taking our pets anywhere else!

My family has utilized Brewer's services for over 40 years. Dr. Brewer, Thornburg and now Dr Ward have been wonderful, caring vets. All three truly care about the health and well-being of all the animals they service. To me, they are just as concerned about our pets as we are.
A special kudos to Dr Ward. We have a soon (next month) to be 13 year old lab who has many tumors and has arthritis. In November of 2019 she was passing blood in her urine. Dr Ward prescribed antibiotics which clears her up. The blood returned in February while we were wintering in Az. I called and spoke with Dr Ward

I saw Dr. Kiley when my dogs were sick and Dr. Kiley did a great job. The office staff was good. My dogs appreciated the care that they received there. I found her really easy to talk to.
I saw Dr. Kirk once when Dr. Kiley was not available and he took good care of my dog and I thought he cared about my dog.
I found the experience there to be a good one and they seemed to care about the two dogs I brought in. The office was professional.

Pretty incompetent and apathetic, unfortunately.
We were passing through Springfield on our way to fly out to Germany. We are bringing our dogs to Germany, so we needed a vet to fill out a health certificate and then for the USDA office to endorse it before we could fly out. We went to the vet and gave them all our dogs' records and explained what we needed (we were mistakenly under the impression that this vet had filled out travel health certificates before. We didn't know how common it was). First they came in saying our dogs needed to be microchipped and get rabies shots, even though

We are lucky to have Brewer Animal Hospital so close to us. Not many vets competently treat rabbits, considered an exotic pet, but Dr. Ward is a member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. Dr. Ward is a cimpssionate care provider for our bunny. We recommend the practice without hesitation
The staff is friendly and shares the conern of the doctors for the welfare of our pets.

Our relationship started in the summer of 1988 with Dr. Brewer. We've lived a lifetime with the Doctors and staff here. The docs are excellent diagnosticians and compassionate they've seen us through many joys and sorrows. I trust them explicitly with our dogs, cats & we've even brought in the occasional guide pig, rabbit & gerbils over the years. Boarding our pups here gives us peace of mind when we have to be away.

5 stars is not enough...I absolutely love Brewer and the staff. I recently moved to IL and when we move the hardest thing to find is an excellent vet for my 14.5 yr old and 2.5 yr old beagles. I read the Yelp reviews and decided to give Brewer a try...so glad I did. Dr. Kirk saved the life of my 14.5 yr old beagle Abby. She has a heart condition and went into distress...though I took her to an emergency vet she progressively got worse through the early morning and when I called Brewer they got her in immediately. Dr. Kirk put her in an oxygen chamber and adjusted her meds and while we are
